F-Bomb Me

Using my vast powers of assumption I have been thinking that my use of the word pesky is probably more offensive to others than it is intended by me to be, and if so I am truly sorry about that, it wasn’t my intention to be so. I have always thought the of the term as denoting mildly vexatious, which may not be other’s connotation of the word.

Small Worlds

One photographer finds another one in a frame from seven years ago, and uses the twitter to let him know.

After zooming in to the photo I discovered that without question it was me. Looking at Anthony’s image EXIF data, I saw the image was taken on October 18th, 2007. I am 24 years old now, so I was 17 in the photo. I also noticed in one of the photographs, it appears I am taking a photo of something. So, I looked through my own images captured that day, and found the exact exposure I had taken within seconds of his:

Well That’s Some Good News

TBogg still has his photo props of Ann.

As I said, I will be popping in here intermittently for the next few weeks bringing you news from the outside world, commenting on lifes rich pageant, sharing creative swear words that you can teach your kids, and — at John’s request — sharing pet pictures which means The Boyz, Fenway & Wembley seen above.

Life is good.

National Media Reports Storms In Butte Montana

Lightning struck a lightning rod on a barn and a tree fell on a car.

Funny, Ain’t It?

The very things that humans evolved and did to survive now threaten our existence.

Progress!

Light Posting On The Blog

(Catchy play on words from the last post, huh?) Posting has been reduced to reduce the theft of intellectual property by reader and writer.

Com’on Baby Li-Fi My Fire

Light at the end of the tubes,

Sisoft Company in Mexico has developed a technology that can illuminate a large work space, an auditorium or an office, while providing full mobile internet to every device that comes into the range of the light spectrum.

The Mexican group managed to transmit audio, video and Internet across the spectrum of light emitted by LED lamps. This new technology, called Li-Fi or light fidelity, is presented as an alternative to Wi-Fi because it will maximize the original provided speed of the internet to offer safer data transfer and a transfer rate of up to 10 gigabytes per second.

Pesky Mexicans,

Another advantage in comparison to Wi-Fi is that there is no way to hack the signal since the internet is transmitted by light, there is no way to “steal it”. Furthermore, it can be installed in hospitals areas that use radiation apparatus and generally block or distort internet signal, Campos Fentanes said.

Ay, Theres The Rub

“Devoutly to be wish’d.
To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream
ay, there’s the rub
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;

TPM Reader JC writes in with a request …

Josh, I was really taken with your pair of tweets this morning about how, as David Ben-Gurion said Jews should “Fight the White Paper as if there was no War, and fight the War as if there was no White Paper,” so should we fight Israel-haters as if there was no Israeli Right with zero interest in peace, and fight the anti-peace Right as if there were no Israel-haters.

If you think it’s hard for Jews . . .

I suppose it is easier being non-Jewish because, theoretically there isn’t the emotional baggage to carry, but there is the baggage to confront. I guess you just have to look past the yelling assholes of the crowd that yell jump at people on ledges, and try and keep it in the realm of common sense and decency.

But I truly think that a peaceful political resolution of the issue is in American, Israeli and Palestinians self interest. Peace isn’t really rocket science, it’s a matter of emotions, manipulation and an unwillingness of most people to think.

Just Wondering

Has anyone else noticed that store bought bread doesn’t get moldy anymore? Last week I suggested to the wife that they had replaced the flour with that white paste we send kids to school with and since then I’ve been eating tortillas, so I thought to ask you.

Sneaking F-35s into China?

A Chinese entrepreneur has been arrested for attempting to steal information on the United States’ Lockheed F-22 and F-35 aircraft and Boeing’s C-17 cargo plane.

Su Bin – along with two uncharged Chinese co-conspirators – is alleged to have hacked into Boeing’s corporate network as well as those of defence contractors in the US and Europe, to gain information the accused said in an email would help China “stand easily on the giant’s shoulders”.

Do us the favor.

Iron Dud And F-35s As Useless As The People That Deploy Them

Maybe you should get productive jobs,

Ted Postol, an MIT-based missile defense expert and frequent Bulletin contributor, provided a dose of context to the Iron Dome coverage in a National Public Radio interview Wednesday. “We can tell, for sure, from video images and even photographs that the Iron Dome system is not working very well at all,” Postol said. “It—my guess is maybe [it hits a targeted missile] 5 percent of the time—could be even lower. … And when you look—what you can do in the daytime—you can see the smoky contrail of each Iron Dome interceptor, and you can see the Iron Domes trying to intercept the artillery rockets side on and from behind. In those geometries, the Iron Dome has no chance, for all practical purposes, of destroying the artillery rocket.

Or maybe you could just quit acting like medieval assholes and join the human race.

Meanwhile Back At The RTFMs Ranch

This has been fun.

I downloaded the DVD with everything so I could play around with it, but I had no problem installing the Gnome desktop and then ripping out everything except X and Mozilla. There’s a minimal install for the minimalists out there too. Next up, KDE.

yum still works fine with KDE, but the usual caveats I have with KDE apply, which, again, is a matter of choice, or free as in freedom. Not having a package manager makes uninstalling tidbits and adding apps awkward, but if you’re a KDE aficionado that shouldn’t be a problem after adding the repos. I ain’t.

A Tolerable Multiverse

For those of you still upset by the weird, Slashdot has an interesting post linking to an article on what we know about the universe, ( ROTFLMAO,).

If the corporate plunderers don’t send us down the Big Boss pipe, it would be really interesting to be around in a thousand years, given our level of ignorance today. Hard to not imagine us becoming the Borg too. Anyway, I’m back to experimenting with simian flu.

Corprorate Surveillance Is Just Hacking By Another Name

It’s OK if we do it,

As the study reveals, this kind of activity is now commonplace:

Many of the world’s largest corporations and their trade associations — including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Walmart, Monsanto, Bank of America, Dow Chemical, Kraft, Coca-Cola, Chevron, Burger King, McDonald’s, Shell, BP, BAE, Sasol, Brown & Williamson and E.ON — have been linked to espionage or planned espionage against nonprofit organizations, activists and whistleblowers.

Not to mention hacking by the media of private individuals,

News Corporation Australia has used an inquiry by the nation’s Senate into a proposed Australia/South Korea free trade agreement to suggest internet service providers become copyright enforcers.

In its submission to the inquiry (number 56 in the list that starts here), News backs proposals in the treaty to criminalise ‘net piracy, and the implementation of legal “incentives” for ISPs to “cooperate with copyright owners in deterring the unauthorised storage and transmission of copyrighted materials”.

OKie Dokie then.

The British national Peter Humphrey and his wife, Yu Yingzeng, a US citizen, are charged with illegally obtaining private information on Chinese citizens, the official news agency Xinhua reported on Monday. The case is the first indictment by Chinese prosecutors against foreigners for illegal investigation, the report said.

I suppose the purpose of a college degree is to sh!t on whatever you can’t f*ck up.
