They Love Us, They’ll Greet Us With Flowers

Iraqis stage mass anti-US rally

Supporters of Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr have staged a mass demonstration in Baghdad in protest against plans to extend the US mandate in Iraq.

An estimated 50,000 protesters chanted slogans such as “Get out occupier!”.

Iraqi and US negotiators drafted the deal after months of talks but it still needs approval from Iraq’s government.

Heckuva a job Bushco!

Meanwhile, al-Maliki said Friday that Gen. Ray Odierno may have lost his position as commander of US forces in Iraq because of his charge that Iran is bribing Iraqi parliamentarians to reject the agreement.

So when push comes to shove in Iraq, who do you think will carry the day, the Shia or the Shia?

Four More Years Of This?

Defections hit Afghan forces

After fighting the Taliban for the past seven years, many working for the Afghan security forces are now switching sides.

Sulieman Ameri and his 16 men were until a month ago serving the Afghan government as police patrolling the border with Iran.

Now they answer to the Taliban and their goal is to drive all foreign troops out of Afghanistan.

Ameri, now a Taliban commander, told Al Jazeera that he joined the Taliban because of what he called anti-Muslim behaviour by international soldiers.

“I have seen everything with my own eyes, I have seen prostitution, I have seen them drinking alcohol. We are Muslim and therefore jihad is our obligation,” Ameri said in the mountains south of Herat.

So, now we have Taliban shooting at us with weapons we provided them.

HA HA

Jobama McCain “Well, that’s another fine mess you’ve got us into Ollie.”

Palling Around With McCain

Country First?

About the same time, veteran Republican operative and lobbyist Charlie Black, who now serves as McCain’s chief campaign adviser, was getting rich by vouching for the integrity of U.S.-backed kleptocrats such as Mobutu Sese Seko in Zaire, brutal military rulers like Siad Barre in Somalia, and Jonas Savimbi, the guerilla leader who for years peppered Angola with land mines and left a generation of shell-shocked children without limbs.

More recently, his firm, Black, Kelly, Scruggs & Healey, represented Iraqi exile Ahmad Chalabi, the one-man show who tap-danced his way across Washington convincing the elite that a pre-emptive showdown with Saddam was vital to our interests. When the post-invasion didn’t go as planned, BKSH was commissioned by the shadowy Lincoln Group for “psyops”—planting happy but not necessarily real stories about the U.S. occupation in the Iraqi media for the Pentagon.

The more things change…

Yeah Brokaws right, Keating may be “ancient” history, if one in fact accepts that the crime was ever resolved.

Slippery Slope

Fed May See Lending to Companies, States as Next Crisis Fronts

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke may find the next fronts of the financial crisis to be just as chilling as last month’s downfall of Wall Street titans: its spread to corporate America and state and local governments.

And to think, Phil, (I’m goona be McCain’s Treasury Secretary,) Gramm engineered it all.

BTW: What do you think of the clickthroughs now? Just wondering.
