Like the First Century Church

Crooked Timber William Morris: sufficientarian and capability theorist

Like a family and all. Good short read. It won’t fly in America because 80 percent attend Church so they can be forgiven for not being Christians. With a Jewish Tithe, you can feel that way too. Of course there are many that will say “Lord! Lord!, in that day, but…” Of course Acts kinda brings this up too. I didn’t read any Scriptures that said “except…”

Buying Into The Program

Why you should read Digsby

In a sane political world, Press The Meat this Sunday would be a very interesting show. This is because over the past couple of days it’s become obvious that Karl Rove is selling the line that he found out about Plame from Libby and that Libby says that his source for the Plame leak was none other than Tim Russert. It’s long past time that the King of the Kewl Kids got the kind of treatment that Judy Miller has received. He’s up to his neck in this thing.
[…]
But it is also about a toxic political culture in the nation’s capital that has abdicated its responsibility to behave within certain norms of decent behavior. After eight long years of being fed the juiciest tabloid lies from a masterful Republican disinformation campaign and a group of friendly GOP special prosecutors, the media became joined with the republican establishment and took on its cheap ethics and ruthless attitudes. They began to identify with them. They helped them destroy Bill Clinton’s reputation and piled-on to keep Al Gore from the presidency with a puerile smear campaign which they admitted to waging just because they found it amusing. And when George W. Bush became president, their condescending refrain to the majority of the country who didn’t vote for him was “get over it.”

Yeah, what he said.

Abducted Guardian journalist is freed

The Guardian

Rory Carroll, the Guardian journalist kidnapped in Baghdad on Wednesday, was freed last night after 36 hours in captivity in a dark underground cell.

Carroll phoned the Guardian to confirm that his captors, whom he described as Shia opportunists, had released him into the hands of the Iraqi government.

The end came when one of his captors received a mobile phone call and unbolted the door to the cell, telling him he was free to go. “He put me in the boot of his car and drove me alone and dropped me in the middle of Baghdad,” Carroll said.

May God bring Peace to that nation.

Instapundit.com –

Strange days indeed.

I agree. Sadly, Kos’s prediction that Democrats would vote with Coburn turned out to be incorrect. But Kos is hammering the Democrats

It’s embarrassing that Feingold was the only Democrat voting for it. What a great way to show the country that Democrats are the party of fiscal responsibility. Sheez… This is becoming a gross failure by both parties and the institution of government.

Yes, it is. I also agree with Kos when he says: “Those who voted against these amendments have zero credibility on issues of fiscal responsibility. Zero. And by the way, Feingold is starting to look really good for ’08.”

You might send a bull to DC, but all you get back are heifers. BTW, don’t eat the Rocky Mountain Oysters there, son, there tainted.

Capital Pigs

Daily Kos: Coburn Amendment, on the floor

Roll call is over, and the amendment failed 15-82. This is becoming a gross failure by both parties and the institution of government.

Voting Yes:

Allard (R)
Allen (R)
Bayh (D)
Burr (R)
Coburn (R)
Conrad (D)
DeMint (R)
DeWine (R)
Feingold (D)
Graham (R)
Kyl (R)
Landrieu (D)
Sessions (R)
Sununu (R)
Vitter (R)

Update: FYI, the reason senators would vote against these amendments is because if any of them pass, it puts every single pork project in their own states in danger. What Coburn has done is allowed a challenge to every single pork line item. As well as it should be. Let each project stand on its own.

Update II: It was easier to keep tally of the meager few “yes” votes than write in the tons of senators which put the politics of personal pork above the national interest. A $223 million bridge serving 50 people was more important to these people than rebuilding storm-battered New Orleans.

Simply unconscionable. Those who voted against these amendments have zero credibility on issues of fiscal responsibility. Zero.

Pardon Me, Your slip is Showing

The Ace of Wankers

Jack Balkin reminds us of the president’s ace – the pardon power – and Robert Parry tells us, among plenty of other things, that Richard Cohen has long been a wanker. He quotes from a 1992 column about the pardon of Casper Weinberger:

“Liberal” Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen spoke for many of his colleagues when he defended Bush’s fatal blow against the Iran-Contra investigation. Cohen especially liked Bush’s pardon of former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, who had been indicted for obstruction of justice but was popular around Washington.

In a Dec. 30, 1992, column, Cohen said his view was colored by how impressed he was when he would see Weinberger in the Georgetown Safeway store, pushing his own shopping cart.

“Based on my Safeway encounters, I came to think of Weinberger as a basic sort of guy, candid and no nonsense – which is the way much of official Washington saw him,” Cohen wrote. “Cap, my Safeway buddy, walks, and that’s all right with me.”

Jonathan Lieberman, Journalist being Sued

via Talking Points Memo,

Remember way back when (okay, only a year ago), Sinclair Broadcasting decided to run an anti-Kerry Swift Boat infomercial on its stations across the country. A popular outcry and a lot of truly spontaneous grassroots activism made them pull-back, at least part of the way. But a big rock rolled into the road for them when their DC Bureau Chief, one Jonathan Lieberman took a stand, gave an interview to the Balitmore Sun, and called the effort “biased political propaganda, with clear intentions to sway this election … For me, it’s not about right or left — it’s about what’s right or wrong in news coverage this close to an election.”

So Sinclair is suing him for giving the interveiw? Gives a whole new meaning to the term Capitalist Pigs.

Maybe the blogosphere can organize a legal defense fund, after all we don’t have to like what he said to support his right to say it. It would be kinda like living in America.

Adjourn…

Thanks, all, for participating, thank to all who sent u Q’s. We asked as many as we could, some were answered, but we teed up Q’s of energy and legal reform to just about everyone, want to keep it on the top of the mind, top of the pile. It’s a little after 1:45, and we’re now adjourned. Eric Cantor finished up, finished well.

His coda: “Our job is to provide an environment for the private sector to grow.”

“Wanker”‘s just another word for nothing left to lose

Sad, but true. I think we make a mistake in thinking that a newspaper is anything more than a venue for selling advertisements, but as attywood pointed out yesterday, the Post hasn’t got a leg to stand on when it comes to the reporting and editorializing in the lead up into the Iraqi War. Heres the link to the post;

The Washington Post editorial board: “Wanker”‘s just another word for nothing left to lose

But the Washington Post can’t really criticize Judy Miller or the Times. That because, in many ways, its pre-war reporting in 2002 and 2003 was worse than anything that Miller did. In New York, it was a corrupted reporter taking advantage of lax or lenient management. In Washington, it was the paper’s management itself– both the editors making news judgments and the Post’s editorial board — that commited the majority of the journalistic outrages.

And that’s the way it is…

Ralph Reed Reproaches Christ

Talking Points Memo: by Joshua Micah Marshall October 20, 2005 10:20 AM

“I don’t think the voters care about this,” Ralph Reed on his role on the Jack Abramoff gambling gravy train. “The reason why we didn’t know every detail was because we were a subcontractor. And, by definition, a subcontractor is told only what they need to do to do their job.”

Brother Ralph, this may be put into a political context only if one does not represent themselves as a leader of the Christian community as you have done. Like a dog returning to its’ vomit, are you returning to the baser things as well? Repent and turn around. You are not so private a citizen, and those who oppose Christ mock his power because of your statements, and activities.

Kondracke breaks new ground on Plame talking points

via the Carpetbagger Report.

Think Progress compiled a terrific list this week on the right’s myths regarding the Plame scandal. Point by point, the list explains what conservatives say to dismiss the seriousness of the scandal and why they’re wrong. It’s a handy resource.

But even the clever folks at Think Progress couldn’t have anticipated what Roll Call’s Mort Kondracke would tell Fox News viewers a few days ago.

Not really surprising if you ever watch FOX, but someday it would be nice if they would quit thinking with their crotches,( Steve,) and start just telling the truth about other things as well. There is nothing inherently wrong about being a conservative, which is more slack than liberals get from the looney tuner right, but can we at least get a little hint of decency?

Secretive Cabal Running U.S. Foreign Policy is Undermining America’s Democracy

Via TPMCafe By Steve Clemons

Read George Packer’s book The Assassin’s Gate if you haven’t already. George Packer, a New Yorker, reporter for The New Yorker, has got it right. I just finished it and I usually put marginalia in a book but, let me tell you, I had to get extra pages to write on.

And I wish, I wish I had been able to help George Packer write that book. In some places I could have given him a hell of a lot more specifics than he’s got. But if you want to read how the Cheney Rumsfeld cabal flummoxed the process, read that book. And, of course, there are other names in there, Under Secretary of Defense Douglas [inaudible], whom most of you probably know Tommy Frank said was stupidest blankety blank man in the world. He was. Let me testify to that. He was. Seldom in my life have I met a dumber man.

Dick Cheney’s Covert Action

via Tom Paine This ties into the article I linked to Yesterday from Justin Raimondo.

Larry C. Johnson October 19, 2005

Face it, America. You’ve been punk’d.

It is now quite clear that the outing of Valerie Plame was part of a broader White House effort to mislead and manipulate U.S. public opinion as part of an orchestrated effort to take us to war. The unraveling of the Valerie Plame affair has exposed their scam—and it extends well beyond compromising the identity of a CIA officer. In short, the Bush administration organized and executed a classic “covert action” program against the citizens of the United States.

Covert action refers to behind-the-scenes efforts by U.S. intelligence agencies to plant stories, manipulate information and shape public opinion. In other words, you write stories that reporters will publish as their own, you create media events that tout a particular theme, and you demonize your opponent. Traditionally, this activity was directed against foreign governments. For example, the U.S. used covert action extensively in Greece in the 1960s to help fend off communists. Covert action also played a major role in rallying world support for the Afghanistan mujahideen following the Soviet invasion in 1979.

Revelations during the past week about the Plame affair make it clear that the Bush administration used covert action against its own citizens. Consider, for example, the charge that Iraq was trying to buy uranium from Niger. The key event in this disinformation campaign was the intelligence manufactured by the Italians. The Italian intelligence service, SISME, provided the CIA with three separate intelligence reports that Iraq had reached an agreement with Niger to buy 500 tons of yellowcake uranium (October 15, 2001; February 5, 2002; and March 25, 2002). The second report, from February, was the subsequent basis for a DIA analysis, which led Vice President Cheney to ask the CIA for more information on the matter. That request led to the CIA asking Ambassador Joe Wilson to go check out the story in Niger.

Larry Johnson worked as a CIA intelligence analyst and State Department counter-terrorism official. He is a member of the Steering Group of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS).

The link is busted on this post, but don’t let that stop you from using the wheel and scrolling down to read this, because it is the proverbial de ja hammer vu.

It isn’t just Pitchfork Pat and the Gargler who are coughing up furball apologetics for institutional thuggery, it’s also such nominal liberals as Tom Oliphant, Richard Cohen, and Jacob Weisberg, dubbed Eschaton’s Wanker of the Day. Some of the same so-called liberals who worked themselves into a capuccino froth about Clinton’s Monica lie shrug off the outing of Valerie Plame and the larger campaign to mislead the country into war in Iraq as no biggie even American troops and Iraqis continue to die and F16s continue to pound targets in the very country we occupy.

This is in reference to Pat Langs piece at Semper Sic Tyrannus 2005.

Update: Personally I doubt four or five years is going to be enough time to pacify Iraq, but that may be the cynical expectation of American Imperial competence. In nearly every endeavor the Federal government is a failure excepting graft and corruption, at which it is quite formidable although it is only competent in hiding it from the MSM.

The Cabal of Kabul

US policy and the ‘Oval Office cabal’
By Jim Lobe

WASHINGTON – As top officials in the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney’s office await possible criminal indictments for their efforts to discredit a whistle-blower, a top aide to former secretary of state, Colin Powell, on Wednesday accused a “cabal” led by Cheney and Pentagon chief Donald Rumsfeld of hijacking US foreign policy by circumventing or ignoring formal decision-making channels.

Interestingly, none of this surprises some of us second rate minds. What is surprising is that the third rate minds in the MSM have finally got a clue.

Update: via Talking Points Memo, the article and transcript of Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, chief of staff to Mr Powell until last January, said is here.

The tsunami aid disaster

Why I hate governments;

NEW YORK – Widely publicized tsunami recovery efforts undertaken by relief agencies and governments in five disaster-affected countries – Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and the Maldives – remain hampered by incompetence, corruption, discrimination and lack of public accountability, according to a new report.

“Tsunami survivors, like many victims of Hurricane Katrina [in the United States], are angry and frustrated,” said Laurel Fletcher, co-author of the study titled “After the Tsunami: Human Rights of Vulnerable Populations”, released by the University of California’s Berkeley Human Rights Center.
[…]
Meanwhile, last week’s South Asian earthquake, which killed more than 79,000 in Pakistan, is the latest in a year of some of the worst disasters ever seen, “yet governments have failed to respond adequately and lives have been lost as a result,” Oxfam International says in a second report.

The thrust of the Oxfam report, titled “2005: Year of Disasters”, is that the number of people affected by natural disasters has climbed dramatically over the last decade, with tens of millions of people affected in the past year alone.

The report says the response to these emergencies has been characterized by an uneven, often-late and sometimes-inefficient international humanitarian performance that has been undermined by inadequate funding for the UN’s vital appeals.

UN chief warns of new ‘massive wave of death’ in Pakistan

No matter what you think about Kofi Annan, how you feel about Islamic Pakistanis, if you are a Christian then you have no time for donor fatigue. For those of you without God, are you without humanity as well?

“It is a race against time to save the lives of these people,” Annan said. “This is a huge, huge disaster … perhaps the biggest ever that we have seen … and at the time of the cold season.”

“I would hope that the international community will respond and those with capacity will do everything possible to work with us and work with the Pakistani government.”

All essential infrastructure has been destroyed in the area, including roads, water systems, hospitals, schools and government buildings, Annan said explaining that some remote areas have still not been reached because of the difficult terrain.

He called for a major increase in funds, noting that donors had only made firm commitments for 12%, or £20 million of the UN appeal for £173 million. By comparison, he said, the UN flash appeal after last December’s tsunami was more than 80% funded within 10 days of the disaster.

As you sow, so shall you reap. These are not the times to think that disaster will not befall you, because most assuredly your time is coming too. I repeat, these things are not over by a long shot.

L’AFFAIRE PLAME- by Justin Raimondo October 3, 2003

Why Justin should get the big bucks too.

The Vice President’s DNA imprint is all over the OSP, and the Niger uranium fiasco. NESA is headed up by his daughter, Elizabeth. Those infamous sixteen words that got into the President’s State of the Union – the single most important speech on our chief executive’s calendar – had to be retracted by a White House that rarely admits error. Somebody is going to pay, and my guess is it’s going to be the Vice President and/or Libby.

Libby has already been implicated as the Spy-gate leaker by Larry Johnson, a former CIA officer who worked with Ms. Plame while she was in training. As Marc Rich’s lawyer for 15 years, Libby has some interesting connections. The fugitive billionaire who renounced his U.S. citizenship rather than face prosecution for fraud and tax evasion secured his pardon due to an extraordinary campaign engineered, in large part, by Libby. Intense pressure was brought to bear on then President Clinton, who was heavily lobbied by Ehud Barak and American Jewish leaders. This campaign was motivated, at least in part, by services Rich reportedly rendered to Israeli intelligence.

This why the Larry Franklin case is getting tied into the Plame investigation. Can you see the dots now?

I sincerely wish the Iraqi people good fortune and good luck with their future, that someday the wounds will heal from an illegal war against that nation, no matter how noble the cause of liberty might be, because this war and this affair were never about that anyway. All the politicall window dressing has been a lie, paid for with the blood of those who have yet to understand the politics of greed, however often they pay the price.

When the Rock Rolls

Mic 5

Now gather yourself together, daughter of a troop; one sets a siege against us. They shall strike the Judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek. And you, Bethlehem Ephratah, being least among the thousands of Judah, out of you He shall come forth to Me to become One ruling in Israel; and His goings forth have been from of old, from the days of eternity.

So He will give them over until the time the one giving birth has given birth. Then the rest of His brothers shall return to the sons of Israel. And He shall stand and feed in the strength of Jehovah, in the majesty of the name of Jehovah His God. And they shall sit, for now He is great to the ends of the earth. And this One shall be peace. When Assyria shall come into our land, and when he shall walk in our palaces, then we shall raise against him seven shepherds and eight anointed ones of man. And they shall depasture the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod at her entrances. And He shall deliver us from Assyria, when he comes into our land, and when he treads within our border.

And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples as dew from Jehovah, as showers on a blade of grass, which does not wait for man, nor delay for the sons of men. And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep (who both tramples and tears in pieces if he passes through) and there is no one to snatch back.
Mic 5:9 Your hands shall be high above your foes, and all your enemies shall be cut off.

And it shall be in that day, I will cut off your horses out of your midst, and I will destroy your chariots, declares Jehovah. And I will cut off the cities of your land and pull down all your fortresses. And I will cut off sorceries out of your hand, and there shall not be ones divining. And I also will cut off your graven images and your pillars from your midst. And you shall not any more worship the work of your hands. And I will pluck your shrines from your midst, and I will destroy your cities. And I will execute vengeance in anger and in fury on the nations, such as they have not heard.

Silently, Malawi begins to starve

Last week the entire country was declared a disaster area by its president. Aid agencies warn that nearly half the country’s 12 million population could starve in the next six months without massive and immediate food donations. So far, it has not been forthcoming. The UN World Food Programme still needs $76m (£43.3m) to feed 2.9 million Malawians until the harvest in April. Sheila Sisulu, deputy executive director of the WFP, described international inaction over Malawi as “deplorable”.

Why Can’t the Left Face the Stolen Elections of 2004 & 2008?

As investigative reporters based in Columbus, Ohio, we witnessed first-hand, up close and personal, exactly how the 2004 election was stolen, and how it will most likely be done in 2008. In the precinct in which Harvey Wasserman grew up, and in the one where Bob Fitrakis now lives, we saw the well-funded, profoundly cynical and deadly effective mechanisms by which the Bush-Cheney-Rove-Blackwell GOP machine switched a victory for John Kerry to an easily-repeatable defeat for democracy.

That Kerry and the spineless Ohio and national Democratic Parties have been complicit is a crucial part of the problem much of the left also seems unwilling to face. But if you live in Franklin County, Ohio, and watch the Republican and Democratic Parties run joint pickets against progressive candidate, and cut backroom deals allowing incumbents of either party run unopposed, you may miss the full scope of the disaster.

And until the left faces the rot that defines the Democratic Party, there is no hope for a fair election in this country. In other words: those who think the White House can be retaken in 2008, but refuse to face the theft of the vote in 2004, should prepare to be ruled by the likes of Jeb Bush, now and forever.

Via Ballon Juice, I came across this little diddy over at Balkanization;

It’s increasingly clear that the strategy of McCain’s opponents — the Vice President and his congressional supporters — will be to amend the McCain Amendment in the Conference Committee so as to exempt the CIA from the prohibition on cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of detainees. The Senate delegation to the Conference Committee presumably will include three of the nine Republicans who voted against the McCain Amendment — Ted Stevens, Thad Cochran and Kit Bond. A recent Congressional Quarterly article, reprinted here, reports Stevens — who would “lead the Senate’s conferees” — as saying that “he can support McCain’s language if it’s augmented with guidance that enables certain classified interrogations to proceed under different terms.” “‘I’m talking about people who aren’t in uniform, may or may not be citizens of the United States, but are working for us in very difficult circumstances,’ Stevens said. ‘And sometimes interrogation and intimidation is part of the system.”

I don’t know how anyone who professes to be a Christian, Muslim or Jew could support, condone or vote for these people so as to give them authority and power to do these unGodly things. This behavior is unacceptable.

As I said previously, Christians will need to decide which authority they adhere to, that of God or that of man. You cannot serve two masters.

Stakes rise in Japan, China gas dispute
By J Sean Curtin

The East China Sea situation is becoming increasingly volatile. Tensions have been high since last month when a Chinese Navy destroyer aimed its guns at a Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force P3-C surveillance plane near the disputed waters of the Chunxiao gas field in the East China Sea. Five Chinese Navy warships have also recently been observed prowling in the same area.

And the Japanese news agency Kyodo this week reported that China last month sent a spy plane, the third in two months, to the disputed East China Sea area to collect data on Japanese military vessels operating there.

A senior Japanese diplomat, who did not wish to be identified said: “It will be difficult for either Japan or China to compromise in this dispute, but failure to do so could create a very dangerous situation. We issued China an ultimatum at the previous talks [at the beginning of October], and made it clear that the issue must be resolved in the next and final round of negotiations scheduled for October 19. If we do not reach a satisfactory settlement, the Japanese public’s patience is likely to reach breaking point.”

US stocks: The visible hand of Uncle Sam

Introduction by Japan Focus
John Embry and Andrew Hepburn provide a valuable entry into the world of finance. The two analysts illuminate the shadowy trail of the “Plunge Protection Team” in its apparent mission to rig the American stock markets.

Their account is backed up by considerable indirect evidence, as well as statements by credible insiders. If their account is correct, it means that US markets look a lot like the Japanese markets that were long derided for being subject to repeated official manipulation. A more important conclusion may be that US markets are even shakier than many believe.

Who would think! I am shocked, Shocked! I tell you, that gambling is going on in this place.

Experts say threat from virus is unprecedented

Sir John Skehel, a distinguished influenza expert, said that in his experience there has not been a bird flu virus quite like the H5N1 strain that is affecting south-east Asia, Turkey and Romania. “This is an unusual situation,” Sir John admitted. “Since we’ve been recording there hasn’t been the spread of a single virus as widely as the H5 virus.”

Nor has there been so many genetic modifications done by mankind to manipulate small things. These things aren’t falling off the moon.

I would advise folks, like the Vietnameese, who drink duck blood, and those Germanics who like blood sausages and puddings to reconsider their culinary choices.

Are we going to war with Iran?

Tuesday October 18, 2005

The Sunday Telegraph warned last weekend that the UN had a last chance to avert war with Iran and, at a meeting in London last week, the US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, expressed his regret that any failure by the UN security council to deal with Iran would damage the security council’s relevance, implying that the US would solve the problem on its own.

Only days before, the foreign secretary, Jack Straw, had dismissed military action as “inconceivable” while both the American president and his secretary of state had insisted war talk was not on the agenda. The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors have found that Iran has not, so far, broken its commitments under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, although it has concealed activities before.

It appears that the UK and US have decided to raise the stakes in the confrontation with Iran. The two countries persuaded the IAEA board – including India – to overrule its inspectors, declare Iran in breach of the non-proliferation treaty (NPT) and say that Iran’s activities could be examined by the UN security council. Critics of this political process point to the fact that India itself has developed nuclear weapons and refused to join the NPT, but has still voted that Iran is acting illegitimately. On the Iranian side there is also much belligerent talk and pop music now proudly speaks of the nuclear contribution to Iranian security.

What we are seeing here is the overt push to war with Iran, (which if you recall the shoot down of the U2 that crashed in Oman last spring,) is in conjunction with the covert war already being fought. The events in Russia earlier this month may have US/UK fingerprints al over them, since Russia refuses to cooperate with the Anglo Amerikan designs on Iranian soveriegnty, which may have as much to do with the “Grand Game”, as it does to do with the oil resources that are feeding Indian and Chineese economic engines.

The violation of a sovereign nation’s airspace is an act of war in and of itself. But the war with Iran has gone far beyond the intelligence-gathering phase.

President Bush has taken advantage of the sweeping powers granted to him in the aftermath of 11 September 2001, to wage a global war against terror and to initiate several covert offensive operations inside Iran.

The most visible of these is the CIA-backed actions recently undertaken by the Mujahadeen el-Khalq, or MEK, an Iranian opposition group, once run by Saddam Hussein’s dreaded intelligence services, but now working exclusively for the CIA’s Directorate of Operations.

It is bitter irony that the CIA is using a group still labelled as a terrorist organisation, a group trained in the art of explosive assassination by the same intelligence units of the former regime of Saddam Hussein, who are slaughtering American soldiers in Iraq today, to carry out remote bombings in Iran of the sort that the Bush administration condemns on a daily basis inside Iraq.

This type of activity really should not surprise anyone familiar with the American senses of fair play, Christianity, and rule of law. That the rest of the world goes blithly along with it may be surprising to some, but India has never been a friend of the American people, nor can we conclude that the British peoples feelings for the American cousins will translate into proper behavior from their government. The Brits are as lied to and naive as Americans, and to think that genocide is not an Anglo Saxon trait is to deny the historical record.

There are those of us however, who must raise a warning, not only to the people of the Axis of Saxons, but to their governments as well. So let them be forewarned, that Jehovah has put a ring in their noses, and a bridle in their mouths, and is leading them where he wishes to go. Let the Christians then exert themselves to to do all the things commanded to do by the Lord Christ Jesus, or they too, shall suffer the coming destruction as well. There is no longer any nuetral ground. You may support the Kingdom of God, or the kingdoms of the Earth, but you may not serve to masters, and the shaking out and threshing has already begun. Choose wisely brothers and sisters, because you have now been warned, and I do not know how much longer the door shall remain open. “Get out from among them, and stop touching the unclean thing!”, says the Scripture. Perhaps it is time you listened to the wisdom of God, and put down the childish things of man. Like I said, consider yourself warned.

Then Daniel went to his house and declared the thing to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, that they might pray for the mercies of God in Heaven about this secret, that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision, and Daniel blessed the God of Heaven. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He causes kings to pass away, and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who know understanding. He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells in Him.

I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and has made me know what we ask of You. For You have revealed to us the king’s matter.

Daniel replied before the king and said, The secret which the king has demanded cannot be shown to the king by the wise men, the conjurers, the magicians, or the star-gazing ones. But there is a God in Heaven who reveals secrets, and makes known to King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head on your bed, are these:

As for you, O king, your thoughts came on your bed, what should happen after this. And He who reveals secrets makes known to you what shall occur. But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living man, but so that the meaning might be made known to the king, and that you might know the thoughts of your heart.

Christ versus the “Church”

Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: “Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah. Deu 6:5 And you shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. ” This is the first commandment. Mar 12:31 And the second is like this, “Lev 19:18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people; but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am Jehovah.” There is not another commandment greater than these.”

Mar 12:32 And the scribe said to Him, You say well, Teacher. You have spoken according to truth, “that God is one,” and “there is no other besides Him;” Mar 12:33 “and to love Him from all the heart”, and from all the understanding, “and from all the soul, and from all the strength;” and “to love one’s neighbor as oneself” is more than all the burnt offerings and the sacrifices. Mar 12:34 And seeing that he answered intelligently, Jesus said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared to question Him any more.

Mar 12:35 And teaching in the temple, answering, Jesus said, How do the scribes say that Christ is the son of David? Mar 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Spirit, “Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. A declaration of Jehovah to my Lord: Sit at My right hand, until I place Your enemies as Your footstool. ” LXX-Psa. 109:1; Mar 12:37 Then David himself calls Him Lord. And from where is He his son? And the large crowd heard Him gladly.

Mar 12:38 And He said to them in His teaching, Be careful of the scribes, those desiring to walk about in robes, and greetings in the markets, Mar 12:39 and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief couches in the dinners, Mar 12:40 those devouring the houses of widows, and for a pretense praying at length. These will receive more abundant judgment.

Mar 12:41 And sitting down opposite the treasury, Jesus watched how the crowd threw copper coins into the treasury. And many rich ones threw in much. Mar 12:42 And coming, one poor widow threw in two lepta (which is a kodrantes). Mar 12:43 And having called His disciples near, He said to them, Truly I say to you that this poor widow has thrown in more than all of those casting into the treasury. Mar 12:44 For all threw in out of that abounding to them, but she out of her poverty threw in all, as much as she had, her whole livelihood.

Mar 13:1 And as He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, Teacher, Behold! What kind of stones and what kind of buildings! Mar 13:2 And answering, Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon a stone which shall not be thrown down.

Strong quake hits off northeastern Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan — A magnitude 6.6 undersea earthquake struck off northeast Taiwan today, the Central Weather Bureau said. No injuries or damages were immediately reported on the island.

The quake hit at 11:51 p.m. about 110 miles east of the capital, Taipei, in the East China Sea, the bureau said. It occurred 118 miles below the ocean floor.

Pakistan death toll near 40,000, expected to rise

With temperatures down to 46 degrees and continued torrential rains, the hard-hit town of Bagh became a rain-soaked nightmare for victims streaming in from nearby villages seeking help from aid groups.

On Saturday, similar problems were found in Balakot, where 25-year-old Mohammed Qassim took shelter from the rain under the corrugated roof of a collapsed building.

He was searching desperately for a tent to keep his five children, as well as the families of two brothers, warm.

“For the sake of God, please give me one tent so that three families can live,” he recalled telling aid groups. “They said no.” He’s hoping to at least get plastic sheets.

Malawi issues food crisis appeal

Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika has declared a national disaster over the food shortages which are threatening almost half the population.

In a radio and TV broadcast, the president said the crisis had worsened and the country needed more help.

UN estimates suggest about five million people will need aid after Malawi’s worst harvest for more than a decade.

It is a “fine” thing to talk about the morality of people, especially other people, if one listens to the evangelical right, or the evangelical atheists, or the President of the US. Let us see if they will but the money where their mouths are, in feeding the destitute and victims of disease and nature.

Christians should not be surprised that they are being tested out in these things. earthquakes and floods and famines are opportunities for You to love those whom you do not know, and whom do not know you. Caste your bread upon the waters, see what happens.

EZSmirkzz: Friday, July 22, 2005

EZSmirkzz: “There is a convergence of events that are going to overwhelm the governments of the world and it would behoove the Christian to drop the pretense that they can have any positive effect on events, as they will invariable find themselves in opposition to God. “

While I’m at it, I suppose.

EZSmirkzz: Thursday, July 21, 2005 Tamiflu resistant H5N1

Maybe the news papers need to start reading Alternet and the blogs. So much for the NY Times’ Bill Kellor. In fact I can’t remember the last time I linked to that paper.

Editors note: I am looking for the original alternet article I linked to. The scientific reportage is here at recombinomics.

Anyway it is nice to see NBC finally bring this story to the light as well. If you follow my link to the original post in July there are other links to much of this and more.

SINISTER EVENTS IN A CYNICAL WAR

Here are questions that are not being asked about the latest twist of a cynical war. Were explosives and a remote-control detonator found in the car of the two SAS special forces men “rescued” from prison in Basra on 19 September? If true, what were they planning to do with them? Why did the British military authorities in Iraq put out an unbelievable version of the circumstances that led up to armoured vehicles smashing down the wall of a prison?

According to the head of Basra’s Governing Council, which has co-operated with the British, five civilians were killed by British soldiers. A judge says nine. How much is an Iraqi life worth? Is there to be no honest accounting in Britain for this sinister event, or do we simply accept Defence Secretary John Reid’s customary arrogance? “Iraqi law is very clear,” he said. “British personnel are immune from Iraqi legal process.” He omitted to say that this fake immunity was invented by Iraq’s occupiers.

H5N1 Dead Pigeons

Earlier I posted that H5N1 was not carried by pigeons and doves, which may have been the case previously with other avian flus, but apparently the new H5N1 strain has been found in pigeons, which as the link explains posses a problem with cats that catch and eat these birds.

Dead pigeons infected with H5N1 in a province with a recently reported fatal H5N1 case is clearly cause for concern. The above observations suggest H5N1 infections can be transmitted via infected birds under a variety of conditions. Recent laboratory observations indicated that H5N1 isolates from Thailand could generate asymptomatic ducks that could shed large amounts of relatively stable virus. The report linked above suggests that current viruses can also kill pigeons. This is a concern because recently H5N1 infections in tigers in a zoo in Thailand led to the deaths of 147 animals and infection via uncooked chickens was the suspected cause. Thus, it seems likely that the virus could spread to wild of domestic cats via dead birds, including pigeons. These infection routes could generate more recombinations also via migrating birds with novel avian influenza sequences.

SUKHOTHAI, Nov 19 (TNA) – The provincial public health office in Thailand’s northern province of Sukhothai has instructed local officials to closely monitor any bird flu infection among 500 students and residents in a district.

The order had been released after a school in the province’s Thung Saliem district reported to the district office of a mysterious death of many pigeons in the neighborhood where the school is located.

Two dead pigeons were sent to a laboratory in the nearby Phitsanulok province to test for bird flu virus and the result confirm that they had died from avian flu, said the chief of Sukhothai’s public health office, Dr. Somchai Rojanaratanankura.

More here, Nine isolated in bird flu fears

Nine people are under medical observation in Turkey after reports of 40 pigeons in their neighbourhood died in mysterious circumstances.

All nine are from Manisa, which is close to the village where the fatal H5N1 strain of bird flu was identified this week.

Obviously there will be a curtailing of the feeding of the Doves, since they are closely related to the pigeon. What a drag.

Haaretz – Israel News – American churches back away from divestment

“My reading, as a central Jewish player in this, is that there never was a [general] move toward divestment,” said David Elcott, director of inter-religious affairs for the American Jewish Committee.

“Here is the reality: No church in the U.S. except the Presbyterians has voted for divestment,” he said, and the only place where divestment looked like it was moving forward may have been in the media,” he said.

U.S. Episcopal Church leaders recently rejected divestment in favor of corporate engagement, and another major denomination, the United Church of Christ, turned down divestment at its convention last summer.

The 2.5 million-member Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the largest body of that denomination, approved in 2004 a “phased, selective divestment” involving its $8 billion portfolio beginning in July 2006.

The Presbyterian church said divestment was only a last resort that may be considered if “progressive engagement fails.” Barry Creech, church spokesman on the issue, said the matter is still on course and “we’re not in a hurry” to get to the point of divestment before the church’s membership meets again next summer.

The Rev. William Harter of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, a force behind Presbyterians Concerned for Jewish and Christian Relations, which opposes divestment, said, “As people look at this with clear heads and understand what’s really involved, there’s a growing awareness that this was a major mistake. It won’t work. There’s no way what’s being proposed is going to have an impact on decisions that the Israelis or Palestinians make about peace and certainly not the U.S. government,” he said.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the 2.3 million-member U.S. Episcopal Church recently chose a different path: to use the church’s $3.6 billion portfolio as a tool “for selected companies to change behavior resulting in a more hopeful climate for peace.”

There are quite a few problems here. With hunger and poverty a problem in the United States, (see New Orleans, 9th Ward, Miami, Florida, etc.,) what are American churches doing with $billion portfolios?

While I cannot and do not judge individuals, I am fully capable of judging the body of Christ and the churches. They stand condemned. May the Soveriegn Lord Jehovah rebuke them. This is not the way of the Christ.

Romanian bird flu tests delayed

Tests on diseased birds from Romania to see if they were carriers of a deadly strain of bird flu have been delayed by at least 24 hours. The analysis is being undertaken by a team of British scientists at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) in Weybridge, Surrey. If the tests for H5N1 prove positive, it will be the first time the virus – which is potentially lethal in humans – had spread to Europe. But a European Commission spokesman said: “There will be no decision on the Romanian outbreak before (Saturday).”

The pay’s lousy, but the slop is free at Camp Anaconda in Iraq.

But Soliman wouldn’t be making anything near the salaries – starting at US$80,000 per year and often topping US$100,000 – that Halliburton’s engineering and construction unit Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR) pays to the truck drivers, construction workers, office workers, and other laborers it recruits from the United States.

Instead, the 35-year-old father of two anticipated US$615 a month, including overtime. For a 40-hour work week, that would be $3-4 an hour. But for the 12-hour day, seven-day week that Soliman says was standard for him and many contract employees in Iraq, he actually earned $1.56 an hour.

Dogs, Dove, Cats and a blog

Every morning, whether I really feel like it or not, I feed upwards of seventy White Wing doves that have become habituated to my doing so. The White Wings have become so numerous in fact that the other varieties are getting squeezed out. The Eurasian Collared, or colloquially Ring Neck, have been reduced to three pairs, and offspring that are nearly white, and the Mourning doves, or Speckled, come at a later time and in fewer numbers as well, since they apparently all enjoy black sunflower seeds more than the company of White Wing dove. This of course doesn’t bother the Inca, who prefer a smaller seed anyway, or the Ground dove who also enjoy millet and other small seeds, along with the ubiquitous tweety birds, which is our term for the finches constantly swirling around in the trees with diverse Darwinian beaks and variations that makes them finches anyway.

Yet I arise every morning, duly walk the dog, who has come to the fate of being chained to a run consisting of a seventy-five foot run of three eighths stainless steel cable, on a twenty foot piece of quarter inch galvanized chain with assorted tackle to prevent the links from rolling around themselves to form a reduced ten foot chain, all due to his proclivity for killing neighborhood cats, and being that he “belongs” to the children, prevents me from sending him to a farm, or flower bed. It also means I walk him every morning, for sure, so that he can inform other dogs that he is still master of his universe, however small that universe may have come to be reduced to, due to the science of man. Like mankind, he is well aware of the fact there is a larger universe than he can see, or smell, from his limited perspective, and so he seeks from time to time to exert himself into the outer regions of the hamlet. On occasion I load him into the car and take him out into the country to chase farmer’s cats, and those cats of those people who need, or enjoy, a more bucolic lifestyle than us hamlet dwellers, who need a car crash, or occasional murder, to keep us in touch with our human nature. So the dog’s circle of life widens out nearly weekly, and provides a little spice of life to an ever widening circle of outlying rural cats.

Despite the dog, the neighborhood cats on occasion enjoy a fine meal of dove, lightly seasoned with an exquisite, non leaded auto exhaust from the spewing SUVs that take children to High, and not so high, Junior High schools down the road, and sautéed in cat spittle. The first SUV usually sends the majority of the doves into the air with a rushing noise, which is something to behold. It makes it all worthwhile, in fact, to watch so many dove thunder into the air and somehow avoid running into each other as they make their flight of the flight or fight equation, since for most part White Wings’ fighting consists of raising one, or two wings, depending on the threat from other birds. Interestingly the tactic impresses the Blue Jays, Red Wings and Grackles, while the Cardinals seem to be nearly Presidential in their indifference, and an utterly inconsequential defense to the Black Capes and Mocking Birds that dive bomb selected individuals during the course of the day when they intrude on the dominion of said birds, a dominion of which appears to be that of, “What I can see at the moment.”

Fortunately, I have some large Ash trees that provide cover for the birds, so they have a place to roost at night above my car, and they are very generous in returning the morning seeds to the windshield and paint, which gives me something to do between walking the dog in near darkness, and feeding the birds at the crack of dawn, when I can look at the Moon flowers’ blooms before they close up and fold. All in all then, I rarely miss a sunrise of purples, reds and yellows, the signs of hope for the new day. And that makes all the bird crap worthwhile.

To the Chief musician on Mahalath. A Contemplation;

Psa 53 A Psalm of David.

The fool has said in his heart, There is no God! They have done corruptly; they have committed abominable wickedness; there is none doing good! God looked down from Heaven on the sons of mankind, to see if there was any discerning, who was seeking God: Every one has turned aside, together they are corrupted, not one is doing good, not even one!

Have the workers of evil not known, eating up My people as they eat bread? They have not called on God. There they dreaded with dread, where no dread was; for God has scattered the bones of the one who besieges you; you have put them to shame because God rejects them.

Who gives from Zion the salvation of Israel? When God brings back the captivity of His people, Jacob shall rejoice; Israel shall be glad.

BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | Al-Qaeda disowns ‘fake letter’

A statement claiming to be by al-Qaeda in Iraq has rejected as a fake a letter allegedly written by Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s second-in-command.

US intelligence published the letter in full, saying it was intended for the alleged head of the movement in Iraq.

In it, Ayman Zawahiri appears to question insurgents’ tactics in attacking Shia Muslims in Iraq.

The claims by US intelligence are “based on imagination”, a statement posted on an Islamist website.

“We in al-Qaeda organisation announce that there is no truth to these claims, which are only based on the imagination of the politicians of the Black [White] House and their slaves,” the statement said.

Something Old,

The Whores of Christendom
Luk 5:30 And their scribes and the Pharisees murmured at His disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? And answering, Jesus said to them, Those who are sound have no need of a healer, but those badly having illness. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

It is of the utmost importance for Christians to get the sense of this passage, especially today when so many people are hurting because, to be blunt, the wheels are coming of the machinery of human institutions. The breakdown will continue to worsen, not improve, despite all the efforts of good intentioned individuals, who for all intents and purposes are attempting to tighten the lug nuts on the wheels of a car doing eighty five miles an hour in a school zone, while the car is careening out of control.

Isn’t it enough that the nonbelievers are lawless towards Christians and other nonbelievers? How is it an improvement that a Christian goes returning reviling for reviling, and injury for injury? That so many Christians do so reflects a serious failure of those who would call themselves teachers to teach the Good News as they ought to be teaching it. Truthful is the writing then, that a mere remnant will be left over, because the teachers are failing their flocks, themselves, and most importantly the Lord, and God.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how someone would spend their time going through seminary and come out of it spewing nonsense that neither builds up the congregation that they are assigned to teach, nor increases the peacefulness of the community and nations to which God has given them to live in. God forgive me that I do hate your teachings so deeply.

I hate your teachings because you give refuge to those who oppress and murder the innocent and the weak, and so those without faith that desire justice and peace oppose the Good News. I hate your teachings because they are not grounded in love, but in lucre and fame and the pride of man. I hate your teachings because you know them to be false, and yet you so fear the crowds, and love the world that you will not repent of these teachings, because your teachings give you no room to you the elite to repent, because the very ones you have been robbing would be crushed at the hearing of their wasted efforts, and lives spent in venal things at your behest.

So you go on teaching lies, because you are the children of your father, who was a liar from the beginning and a man slayer, just as you yourselves are. Eighteen hundred years of slaughter of the innocents lays at your feet, and you do not repent of your teachings because you drink the blood of the weak, and clothe yourself in the scarlet colored robes of their blood and the in the purple majesty of the kings you wish to be and whose swords you use to do your slaughtering. Never once have you tried to prevent these slaughters.

I call on the clergy of Christendom then to repent, to turn around, to cease doing bad things for unsound reasons. But I know you will not, because you are lovers of the whores of the age, and you are prostitutes of the worldly powers, and the love for God is not in you. You actually love the world that you have created, and you love the lucre you have obtained to, and you remain ignorant of the wrath of God that remains upon you. But you shall not be ignorant much longer oh son of man, because every eye will see what a whore you are in the coming days, and what will you do in the end of it all, oh Jezebel?

Turkey bird flu ‘is deadly strain’

BRUSSELS, Belgium — The lethal H5N1 strain of bird flu has been found in Turkish poultry and is likely present in Romania, the European Commission has said.
[…]
“The virus found in Turkey is avian flu H5N1 high pathogenic virus,” the EC’s Health and Consumer Protection chief Markos Kyprianou told a news conference in Brussels on Thursday.

“All the virological tests carried out to date in Romania have failed to identify the presence of the avian influenza virus. Every day that passes … reassures us that avian influenza is not in fact present in Romania,” EU Commission spokesman Philip Tod told reporters, Reuters reported.

Faux Knew

There’s a darkness in the sky
no one really can say why
they all flipped the switch
but the sun refused to shine.
In the mourning of the dead
they forget just what they said
they pulled the triggers faster
than they could load the guns.
Now there’s a city on the hill
where it’s all become surreal
a vapor trail of empty smoke
is all the papers tell.
In the lying down they stand
with the broken down command
there is nothing really here for you to be
so turn around and learn to stay
there is nothing left to say
together we can learn to crash and burn.

Mystery fog engulfs Nigerian city

Nigeria’s main city of Lagos has been enveloped in a thick, white, malodorous fog, which has caused panic.

Lagos’ state governor closed all schools in the city and some residents have complained of irritation to their eyes and stomach pains.

As opposed to the fog in Washinghands DC, (District of Corruptia,) which is producing the same results outside of that city.

Romania bird flu tests negative

EU veterinary experts have concluded that the bird flu virus is not present in Romania, after talks in Brussels.

Fears about a Bulgarian outbreak have so far proved unfounded, although three dead wild birds are being tested.

Test results on separate samples from Turkey are expected later in the week.

So why all the hubbub about bird flu?

Just so you city folk don’t get your knickers in a knot, pigeons and doves do not carry bird flu. Sorry about your statues. On the other hand the birds do make good eating if you know the art of cooking a small bird. Otherwise you’ll have to eat fish, which is another art.

Amazon Rainforest Suffers Worst Drought in Decades

MANAQUIRI, Brazil — The worst drought in more than 40 years is damaging the world’s biggest rainforest, plaguing the Amazon basin with wildfires, sickening river dwellers with tainted drinking water, and killing fish by the millions as streams dry up.

“What’s awful for us is that all these fish have died and when the water returns there will be barely any more,” Donisvaldo Mendonca da Silva, a 33-year-old fisherman, said.

Nearby, scores of piranhas shook in spasms in two inches of water — what was left of the once flowing Parana de Manaquiri river, an Amazon tributary. Thousands of rotting fish lined the its dry banks.

Humanitarian crisis looms in Malawi

Aid agencies in Malawi, one of Africa’s poorest countries, are warning of a looming humanitarian crisis stemming from the double effect of drought that has cut output of maize, the staple food, by a quarter and HIV/Aids affecting 15% of the population.

Up to five million people are in need of food aid in Malawi, the hardest hit in southern Africa where five other countries are also struggling with extreme hunger that is expected to reach its peak in December and January, according to the UN World Food Programme.

Guatemala mourns flood, mudslide victims.

Hundreds of people remained unaccounted for throughout the south-western region of Guatemala, raising fears that the toll of victims – now at 652 confirmed deaths – will climb much higher.

Officials remained especially worried about rescue and recovery efforts in towns and villages that have been too remote to reach.

Up to 1,400 people are feared to have been buried alive since the early hours of Wednesday, when an avalanche of rock and mud tumbled from the slopes of San Lucas volcano onto the towns of Panabaj and Tzanchaj.

“Hucksterism” at Delphi: Top Execs Rewarded While Workers Getting Screwed

Compare what Delphi’s CEO is doing for top executives compared to the lead graph, front page, above the fold, “Business and Finance” box in the Wall Street Journal:

DELPHI’S CEO SAID the auto supplier could save its pension plan if unions agreed to work for about a third of their old pay.

There are probably deep structural reasons why Delphi is struggling — but to reward those at the top who failed while workers struggle continues the story of outrageous ‘structural corruption’ in our economy.

Stretch Marks on Pat Robertson’s Labor Pains

I saw an article over at the Hufington Post, and mention of it elsewhere as well so I thought that my widows mites might be worth two cents.

Now as I understand the teachings of Christ, his admonitions were to be applied to ourselves and not others, and so I would imagine unless they explicitly refer to someone else the teachings of the Apostle would fall into line with those teachings, or doctrines. So if you are guilty of any of the below, (convict yourself,) you may want to modify your outlook.

2Timothy 3 Know this also, that in the last days grievous times will be at hand. For men will be self-lovers, money-lovers, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unyielding, false accusers, without self-control, savage, despisers of good, traitors, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it; even turn away from these.

I say convict yourself, because if you are guilty of these things then there is no judgement from me involved, and if you are guilty of any of those things there is no penalty that I can exact from you.

Robertson remarked “Devout Christians believe that the “last days” will be marked by political and geological upheaval, and Roberts said recent events show that those days might have arrived.”, according to the article linked in the Title. That may or may not be true, since Christ also said that earthquakes were the beginning of the signs of distress, and that the hour and way of his return would not be when and how we expect it, so there is a lot of ambiguity in just exactly when and how this age of unreality will end.

And if I give all my belongings to feed others, and if I hand over my body, that I may boast, but do not have love, I am not profited at all.

Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. 1Cor 3:3-8

Again in the letter from James;

Listen, my beloved brothers. God chose the ones who are poor respecting the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he promised to those who love him, did he not? YOU, though, have dishonored the poor [man]. The rich oppress YOU, and they drag YOU before law courts, do they not? They blaspheme the fine name by which YOU were called, do they not? If, now, YOU practice carrying out the kingly law according to the scripture: “You must love your neighbor as yourself,” YOU are doing quite well. But if YOU continue showing favoritism, YOU are working a sin, for YOU are reproved by the law as transgressors.

For whoever observes all the Law but makes a false step in one point, he has become an offender against them all. For he who said: “You must not commit adultery,” said also: “You must not murder.” If, now, you do not commit adultery but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of law. Keep on speaking in such a way and keep on doing in such a way as those do who are going to be judged by the law of a free people. For the one that does not practice mercy will have [his] judgment without mercy. Mercy exults triumphantly over judgment. Ja 2:5-13

From what source are there wars and from what source are there fights among YOU? Are they not from this source, namely, from YOUR cravings for sensual pleasure that carry on a conflict in YOUR members? YOU desire, and yet YOU do not have. YOU go on murdering and coveting, and yet YOU are not able to obtain. YOU go on fighting and waging war. YOU do not have because of YOUR not asking. YOU do ask, and yet YOU do not receive, because YOU are asking for a wrong purpose, that YOU may expend [it] upon YOUR cravings for sensual pleasure.

Adulteresses, do YOU not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God. Ja 4:1-5

Watch out now,
take care, beware
of soft shoe shufflers,
who lead you where you should not go.

Reserves’ death toll rises

Associated Press

WASHINGTON – The National Guard and Reserves are suffering a strikingly higher share of U.S. casualties in Iraq, their portion of total American military deaths nearly doubling since last year.

Reservists have accounted for one-quarter of all U.S. deaths since the Iraq war began, but the proportion has grown over time. It was 10 percent for the five weeks it took to topple Baghdad in the spring of 2003, and 20 percent for 2004 as a whole.

The trend accelerated this year. For the first nine months of 2005 reservists accounted for 36 percent of U.S. deaths, and for August and September it was 56 percent, according to Pentagon figures.

After news broke last holiday season of the Asian tsunami, World Vision’s Web site was so overwhelmed with donors that it crashed en route to helping raise $350 million worldwide, a record for the agency.

Yesterday, as news accounts detailed the suffering from a new Asian disaster wrought by a powerful earthquake along the Pakistan-India border, World Vision fundraising traffic on the Internet and phones was comparatively light.

I agree with the thrust of the article, but we need to remember that relief aid saves lives, and donating to these efforts is not a fad, or flash mob kind of effort. People are dying, and more will die, if not enough is done in the early days.

Hondurans are starving to death as well.

There isn’t any political, religious or motivational problem with these various people in need. Natural disasters are pretty democratic in third world countries.

I urge my brothers and sisters in Christ to respond with a concerted, sustained effort on their part, as this is a test of YOUR heart condition, and Your endurance in good works.

Looting as frustration mounts

Even with many far flung areas still not reached, the death toll has hit 41,000 in Pakistan alone, with another 1,239 dead in India and one reported death in Afghanistan, officials have said.

Islamic Relief spokesman Waseem Yaqhoob told CNN he thought the deaths would reach “80,000, maybe more.”

“This could get very close to tsunami levels,” he said. “It’s horrific. It really is terrible.”

As many as 5 million people have been left homeless, living in the open air and freezing temperatures since the quake.

[…]

CNN’s Matthew Chance, reporting Monday from the city of Balakot in the North-West Frontier province, described a “scene of utter devastation,” saying nearly every building in the tourist town of 250,000 had been destroyed. (Eyewitness accounts)

Temperatures have been near freezing, and no tents or temporary housing have arrived. In the daylight hours, survivors dug through the rubble by hand in search of whatever they could find — particularly survivors.

Needless to say this isn’t all of the relief agencies involved. I would think that all of you who are giving something up for lent, may perhaps wish to fast for three days, and send the food money as well. This still isn’t over, by a long shot. so don’t get weary of giving just yet.

Quake victims loot supplies; toll 40,000

The Pakistani cabinet headed by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, which held its second meeting in as many days to take stock of the dead and injured, announced that the official death toll so far was 20,745 with over 42,000 injured. But the UN officials involved in relief activities and officials of the PoK administration have put the toll over 40,000 with over 30,000 dead in POK alone.

Earlier the Independent had Forty thousand as well, the flucuating toll is highlighting the chaos and confusion on the ground.

Daily Kos: The New York Times on the Brink

Agreed.

It is NOT unfair now to speculate that a New York Times reporter conspired with members of the Bush Administration in a scheme to discredit a critic of the Bush regime. It is NOT unfair now to speculate that the management of the New York Times is engaged in obfuscation and stonewalling in order to cover up its complicity in Ms. Miller’s actions.

The New York Times is now suspect on this story. They owe their readers and the nation a full explanation of what Ms. Miller was doing, why, what they knew, when they knew it, and what they did in reacton to it.

Mockingbird : A CIA Operation that eventually subverted most major media outlets in the United States, to report favorabley on government policies and spread disinformation deemed useful by the Federal Government.

Now do you understand the Mainstream Media?

Slactivism of the Alisters

And, there’s a bit of pique involved in not posting. After the up that was the march on Saturday, seeing at least 150,000 people get off their duffs and show up in Washington DC to voice their disapproval for a war that is totally in the red on the ledger of justification, it was a big let down to see how the liberal “A-List” bloggers handled the whole thing. As a counterpoint to selective and in some cases entirely made up accounts from the usual bunch of right-wing blog idiots, and you know who they are, the response from our own was pretty much silence and contempt.

Atrios, for example, had nothing on the march. Not a goddamn word. Markos Moulitsas Zúniga of the Daily Kos fired off a post, Peace protests and the new media environment, that was off the mark and fairly condescending. Well, to be honest, it was wickedly condescending in a way that only telling over 150,000 people that they just aren’t hip and plugged in can be:…

There’s a term for that kind of effortless activity: Slacktivism

I tend to agree with the Rev, although I don’t recall Atri*s position on the whole thing, I remember Kos’s post. Of course Kos is more liberal than the DLC, although I wouldn’t blanket him with that label either. He is definitely a hawk, so his anti antiwar stance is understandable, although we disagree on that.

Anyway give Myreku a read, once in awhile, after all Zlisters need love too. Hat tip to Stealth Badger.

Fears mount for mudslide victims

Rescuers are still not able to reach at least 90 Guatemalan villages cut off by mudslides after Tropical Storm Stan, Vice President Eduardo Stein says.

At least 508 people are confirmed dead but officials warn another 1,400 could have died in two villages in the worst affected area, around Lake Atitlan.

[…]

Dozens of bodies have already been pulled from the mud in the Mayan villages of Panabaj and Tzanchaj, on the shores of Lake Atitlan, an area popular with Western tourists.

Firefighters’ spokesman Mario Cruz told the AFP news agency he did not believe anyone would be found alive now.

“I don’t believe there are survivors,” he said. “Already 36 hours have passed. According to estimates we have, 1,400 people were trapped there.”

Death Toll Surpasses 30,000 in Asia Quake

“I have been informed by my department that more than 30,000 people have died in Kashmir,” Tariq Mahmmod, communications minister for the Himalayan region, told The Associated Press.

Pakistani officials said the toll could go higher, and a provincial official in Kashmir said more than 30,000 died in that province alone. 12:23 PM PDT, October 9, 2005

Race, Lies and New Orleans

A week after Katrina hit, a reporter for the British Guardian newspaper was curious whether there was any truth to the wild, gossipy, and hysterical reports of murder, rape, incest, and stacked corpses at the New Orleans Superdome.

He closely examined police reports, and records, the statements of city officials, and eyewitness accounts. He didn’t find anything to substantiate the press reports, or official claims of the bedlam. His story was ignored in the mainstream press, and lightly mentioned on a few obscure websites.

A number of web respondents sneered at the story as a lie, or an apology for black crime by a left leaning tabloid. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin quickly jumped into the fray, slandered his own city, and reinforced the worst racial stereotypes with his violence-is- everywhere rant on Oprah and national talk shows.

[…]

In a 2003 Penn State University study, researchers asked white participants to examine newspaper pictures of black and white crime suspects. Later they asked them whom the stories had highlighted. In nearly every case, the respondents incorrectly said that the suspects were black. The researchers blamed what they called the “mismemory” of whites on who commits crime on the top-heavy media emphasis on black crime.

That mismemory was evident during another big disaster a decade ago. This time it was the 1992 L.A. riots. TV reporters constantly tailored their reports to depict the violence as the handiwork of black rioters. But TV was an open mirror. Viewers could plainly see that many of those looting and burning were non-blacks. A Rand study of the racial breakdown of 5,000 riot related cases processed through Los Angeles municipal courts found that the majority of those arrested for riot related offenses were Latinos and whites. The arrest figures were reported in the back pages of one newspaper and ignored by the rest of the press.

New Hurricane Song About Katrina Upsets Bush Administration

“Everything is gone. Everything is gone. The clothes on my back are all I own.”

“Then it hit me – Ain’t nobody coming to get me”

“Begging you for water – again and again. Please don’t make me drink the water that I’m standing in.”

Finding agreement about global warming

By Mike Fancher Seattle Times executive editor

Global warming is a hot-button issue, and today’s special report on the subject is likely to be inflammatory for some readers.

Titled “The truth about global warming,” the report concludes that “scientists overwhelming agree: the Earth is getting warmer at an alarming pace, and humans are the cause — no matter what the skeptics say.” Even Sandi Doughton, who wrote the story, would have been surprised by that statement just a year ago. In fact, she was.

Two studies found the destructive power of hurricanes has been increasing worldwide.

A couple of good reads that shoot holes in Tech Centrals arguments against the theory. I wonder, really, how anyone who takes money from the industries that are profiting from doing nothing aren’t just called whores and prostitutes. Because they don;t engage in physical sex? Is that the only criteria? What is it that motivates whores and prostitutes to sell out their bodies, that is so different from scientists that sell out their profession. Seems to be a distinction without a difference to me.

Fears that Asian bird flu has spread to Europe as ducks die in Romania

· Black Sea villagers and animals under quarantine
· Britain to conduct tests looking for lethal strain

Fears that the deadly Asian bird flu may have spread to Europe were heightened yesterday when the Romanian government confirmed that three ducks have died of a strain of the disease in the east of the country. Scientists in Britain are to conduct tests on samples to find out whether the domestic ducks were infected by the dangerous H5N1 strain, which has so far been confined to Asia.

The Romanian government warned that it feared that the ducks were infected with the strain, and strong security measures were put in place in the village of Ceamurlia, in eastern Romania, where the birds died late last month. Restrictions were placed on the movement of people and animals into and out of the village near the Black Sea and there were plans to vaccinate people. Nearly all the domestic fowls in the village have been slaughtered.

Court Rules in Favor of Anonymous Blogger

By RANDALL CHASE
Associated Press Writer

DOVER, Del.

In a decision hailed by free-speech advocates, the Delaware Supreme Court on Wednesday reversed a lower court decision requiring an Internet service provider to disclose the identity of an anonymous blogger who targeted a local elected official.

In a 34-page opinion, the justices said a Superior Court judge should have required Smyrna town councilman Patrick Cahill to make a stronger case that he and his wife, Julia, had been defamed before ordering Comcast Cable Communications to disclose the identities of four anonymous posters to a blog site operated by Independent Newspapers Inc., publisher of the Delaware State News.

More on !@%#&!& College Degrease

Why is it so common amongst the College educated to use foul language on their blogs? Surely they must have come across a Roget in their studies, and to write like a sailor speaks detracts from their argument, even to us low lifes with a mere HS degree. I am serious about this, it doesn’t impress anyone, and if it is a matter of bona fides, than what sort of intellect are they appealing to?

I ain’t no prude either, I was in the Navy, and I understand the effects that expletives can have when used in the proper context, such as Lennon did in “Working Class Hero”, but just to use it to use it detracts, as well as distracts, and that’s a fact jack.

Bush’s Satanic Verses-

by Justin Raimondo

Unlike your typical secular liberal, I am not one to snark at any mention of a divine entity, be it Jehovah or Phoebus Apollo. Instead, I wonder: how does Bush know the voice he’s hearing is God’s? What if it’s the Devil’s?

They didn’t bring down the World Trade Center and attack the Pentagon because of the Bill of Rights, or even Roe v. Wade, but because American soldiers trod on the sacred soil of Saudi Arabia, defiling holy ground. They came over here because we were – and are – over there.

They want us out, not because of our system of constitutional checks and balances, but because we aren’t part of the Ummah. Simple to understand, but apparently too complex for the president.

Why is it that most agnostics and Libertarians have a better handle on reality than atheists and believers, even the spiritual reality of things?

As per my previous post, perhaps the systematic learning system of “higher” education locks peoples thinking into frames of reference that they are unable to broach, and so they are the last to see things as they are, instead of as they are supposed to be. In other words, if an “educated” elite says such and such about whatever, in their discipline, then other “educated” elites in other disciplines take it at face value, and are surprised when the Emperor is exposed as being exposed.

This of course neglects the marketing aspect of the ruling classes, which mislead both the “educated” and non “educated”, as the one is inclined to continue education and the other is not, yet the marketing works equally as well on both groups, so that there is no distinction between them as far as practical intelligence goes. One believes a lie because it is what one wishes to do, and all the degrees from the Ivy League can’t change that.

Concernin Coulter, Miers, and Elitism

And when I came to you, brothers, I did not come with excellency of word or wisdom, declaring to you the Testimony of God. For I decided not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ, and Him having been crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my word and my preaching was not in enticing words of human wisdom, but in proof of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

But we speak wisdom among the perfect, but not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, those being brought to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, having been hidden, which God predetermined before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age has known. For if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; according as it has been written, “Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard,” nor has it risen up into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those that love Him. Isa. 64:4

But God revealed them to us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of a man within him? So also no one has known the things of God except the Spirit of God. But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit from God, so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. Which things we also speak, not in words taught in human wisdom, but in Words taught of the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.

But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But the spiritual one discerns all things, but he is discerned by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord?” “Who will teach Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. Isa. 40:13

Domestic Spying by the SoD

I rendered these pdf pages refered to in Laura’s post for the Adobe acrobat disadvantaged.

Creeping Police State Provisions Snuck into Intel Bill

Newsweek on domestic spying by the Pentagon:

…the Senate Intelligence Committee recently approved broad-ranging legislation that gives the Defense Department a long sought and potentially crucial waiver: it would permit its intelligence agents, such as those working for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), to covertly approach and cultivate “U.S. persons” and even recruit them as informants—without disclosing they are doing so on behalf of the U.S. government. The Senate committee’s action comes as President George W. Bush has talked of expanding military involvement in civil affairs, such as efforts to control pandemic disease outbreaks.

[…]

Here’s the report (pdf) accompanying the bill. Check out pages 7, 17-19, 25-28. One of the bigs should really make this the subject of one of the Sunday talk shows, get Pat Roberts and Jay Rockefeller on to discuss what’s being done without any public debate.
Posted by Laura at 11:23 PM

In the report, the ISWG noted that certain provisions of the Privacy Act could prevent the sharing of intelligence information within the Executive Branch. Generally, the Privacy Act (5 U.S.C. 552a) precludes the dissemination of information regarding U.S. persons stored within a system of records maintained by the United States government without the consent of that individual. There are, however, twelve exceptions to this general rule. For example, one exception permits the sharing of information to support a civil or criminal law enforcement activity under certain prescribed circumstances. There is no exception permitting Intelligence Community elements and other United States government agencies to share foreign intelligence or counterintelligence information (including information concerning international terrorism or proliferation of weapons of mass destruction) between or with elements of the Intelligence Community.

To address this shortcoming, Section 307 creates a pilot program to study a narrow intelligence exception to the Privacy Act. specifically, the provision allows transfers under three circumstances. First, the provision permits elements of the Intelligence Community, including their parent departments and agencies, to share with other elements of the Intelligence Community, and their parent departments and agencies, information covered by the Privacy Act when that information is relevant to a lawful and authorized foreign intelligence or counterintelligence activity. Second, the provision permits the head of an element of the Intelligence Community to request in writing Privacy Act records relevant to a lawful and authorized activity of that element to protect against international terrorism or the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction from another United States government agency with similar responsibilities related to protection against international terrorism and proliferation. Third, the provision authorizes heads of non-Intelligence Community agencies with responsibilities to protect against international terrorism or the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to share Privacy Act records with an element of the Intelligence Community if the record constitutes “terrorism information” (as defined in Section 016(a)(4) of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (Pub. L. No. 108-458 (Dec. 17, 2004)) or information concerning the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, if the receiving element of the Intelligence Community is lawfully authorized to collect or analyze the information to protect against international terrorism or proliferation. When necessary to determine whether a record held by a non-Intelligence Community agency constitutes terrorism information or information concerning the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the head of such agency may
consult the DNI or the Attorney General. Section 307 also extends to the pilot program an exemption from certain records access and disclosure accounting requirements. In order to protect intelligence sources and methods from unauthorized disclosure, this exemption is identical to the exemption extended to the DNI under Section 416 of this Act.

Section 307 facilitates the sharing only of intelligence information already lawfully collected and maintained within United States government record systems and relevant to a lawful and authorized foreign intelligence or counterintelligence activity (with a particular focus on sharing by non-Intelligence Community elements on information concerning international terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction). The provision expressly states that the new authority does not permit the collection or retention of foreign intelligence or counterintelligence information not otherwise authorized by law.

Page 7 Above

Congress provided the President with the authority to waive any, or all, of the requirements of Section 119A if it was determined that they did not materially improve the nonproliferation ability of the United States. At the time Congress enacted the Intelligence Reform Act, the WMD Commission had not completed its work. Congress provided that the President, after receiving the WMD Commission report, should submit to Congress his views on
the establishment of the NCPC.

In its March 31, 2005 report, the WMD Commission recommended that the President establish a relatively small NCPC that manages and coordinates analysis and collection across the Intelligence Community on nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. The WMD Commission supported the concept of “strategic operational planning,” but recommended that it not be performed by the NCPC.

On June 29, 2005, the White House announced that the President had endorsed the establishment of an NCPC. The statement provided that the NCPC would exercise “strategic oversight” of the Intelligence Community’s weapons of mass destruction activities. The DNI would ensure that the NCPC establishes strategic intelligence collection and analysis requirements regarding WMD that are consistent with United States policies. Under the President’s plan, the NCPC would be established within the Office of the DNI, and the DNI would appoint the Director of the NCPC who would then report to the DNI. On August 8, 2005, the DNI announced the appointment of the first Director of the NCPC. This appointment represents an important first step in the establishment of the NCPC.

Section 409 of this Act reflects the President’s determination that the DNI should appoint the Director of the NCPC and that the NCPC should be located in the Office of the DNI.

Section 409 does not amend any other procedural or substantive provision of Section 119A of the National Security Act of 1947. If the President determines not to assign to the NCPC any power provided by Section 119A, notice must be provided to Congress in writing as required by that section.

Section 410. Operational files in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Section 410 adds a new Section 700 to the National Security Act of 1947. It ensures that protected operational files provided by elements of the Intelligence Community to the Office of the DNI carry with them any exemption such files had from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requirements for search, review, publication, or disclosure.

Page 17

In the CIA Information Act, Congress authorized the DCI to exempt operational files ofthe CIA from several requirements of the FOIA, particularly those requiring search and review inresponse to FOIA requests. In a series of enactments codified in Title VII of the National Security Act of 1947, Congress has extended the exemption to the operational files of the NGA, the National Security Agency (NSA), and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). It has also provided that the files of the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive (NCIX) should be treated as operational files of the CIA (to the extent they meet the criteria for CIA operational files). Section 434 of this Act would extend the FOIA exemption to the operational files of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

The components of the Office of the DNI, including the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), require access to information contained in operational files. The purpose of Section 410 is to make clear that the operational files of any component of the Intelligence Community, for which an operational files exemption is applicable, retain their exemption from FOIA search, review, disclosure, or publication.

The new Section 700 of the National Security Act of 1947 provides several limitations. The exemption does not apply to information disseminated beyond the Office of the DNI. Also, as Congress has provided in the operational files exemptions for the CIA and other Intelligence Community elements, Section 700 provides that the exemption from search and review does not apply to requests by United States citizens or permanent residents for information about themselves (although other FOIA exemptions, such as appropriate classification, may continue to protect such files from public disclosure). The search and review exemption would not apply to
the subject matter of Congressional or Executive Branch investigations into improprieties or violations of law.

In the DNI’s request to the Committee for legislative authorities, the Office of the DNI asked for a broader exemption from the FOIA than currently provided in Section 410. The Committee considers it likely that the operations of the Office of the DNI, in particular the activities of the NCTC and the NCPC, may require an operational files exemption. Before acting on such a request, the DNI, through the Chief Information Officer of the Intelligence Community or other appropriate officers, should systematically study and report to the intelligence committees regarding the application of the FOIA to the Office of the DNI.

As part of this review, the DNI should report on the responsibility assigned by Congress in the Intelligence Reform Act concerning operational file exemptions. Congress amended each operational file statute to provide that the exemption should be made only with the coordination of the DNI. Congress also provided that the decennial review of the exemptions in force must be undertaken with the DNI. These decennial reviews must include consideration of the historical
value or other public interest in categories of files and the potential for declassifying a significant amount of the material in them. The DNI should advise the intelligence committees on the benefits of coordinating the four decennial reviews (five with the enactment of Section 434 of this Act) which now occur at different times.

Page 18

Section 411. Eligibility for incentive awards of personnel assigned to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Section 411 updates Section 402 of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1984 (Pub. L. No. 98-215 (Dec. 9, 1983)) to reflect and incorporate organizational changes made by the Intelligence Reform Act. Section 411 also makes other technical and stylistic amendments and strikes a subsection of the law that applied only during fiscal year 1987.

Section 412. Repeal of certain authorities relating to the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive.

Section 412 amends the authorities and structure of the Office of the NCIX to eliminate certain independent administrative authorities that had been vested in the NCIX when that official was appointed by, and reported to, the President. Those authorities are unnecessary, redundant, and anomalous now that the NCIX is to be appointed by, and under the authority, direction, and control of the DNI.

Section 413. Inapplicability of Federal Advisory Committee Act to advisory committees of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Congress enacted the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) (5 U.S.C. App.) to regulate the use of advisory committees throughout the Federal Government. The FACA sets forth the responsibilities of Congress and the Executive Branch with regard to such committees and outlines procedures and requirements for such committees. As originally enacted in 1972, the FACA expressly exempted advisory committees utilized by the CIA and the Federal Reserve System. Section 413 amends the FACA to extend this exemption to those advisory committees established or used by the Office of the DNI.

Section 414. Membership of the Director of National Intelligence on the Transportation Security Oversight Board.

Section 414 substitutes the DNI, or the DNI’s designee, as a member of the Transportation Security Oversight Board established under Section 115(b)(1) of Title 49, United States Code, in place of the Director of the CIA.

Section 415. Temporary inapplicability to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence of certain financial reporting requirements.

Section 3515 of Title 31, United States Code, requires certain United States government agencies to prepare and submit to the Congress and the Director of the OMB, not later than March 1 of each year, an audited financial statement for the preceding fiscal year. Section 3515 applies to the Office of the DNI. When the Accountability of Tax Dollars Act of 2002 (Pub. L. No. 107-289 (Nov. 7, 2002)), amended Section 3515, the Director of the OMB was given the authority

Page 19 (Above)

Protection of Personnel of the Office of the DNI

Section 425 also authorizes the Director of the CIA, on request of the DNI, to make CIA protective detail personnel available to the DNI and to other personnel within the Office of the DNI. The DNI, in consultation with the Director of the CIA and the Attorney General, should advise the intelligence committees within 180 days of enactment of this Act on whether this arrangement meets the protective needs of the Office of the DNI or whether other statutory authority is needed.

Section 426. Modification of exclusion of military officer serving as Associate Director of the Central Intelligence Agency for Military Support from officer strength and distribution-in-grade
limitations.

Section 426 amends existing law to reflect the appropriate designation of the “Associate Director of Central Intelligence for Military Support” as the “Associate Director of the Central Intelligence Agency for Military Support.” The provision also ensures that the position will be “non-count” for purposes of Chapter 32 of Title 10, United States Code.

SUBTITLE C–DEFENSE INTELLIGENCE COMPONENTS

Section 431. Modification of requirements on disclosure of Governmental affiliation by Department of Defense intelligence personnel.

Section 431 provides a necessary, but limited, DoD intelligence exemption to a provision of the Privacy Act (5 U.S.C. 552a). Section 552a(e)(3) of Title 5, United States Code, requires each agency that maintains a system of records to inform each individual whom it asks to supply information, on the form which it uses to collect the information or on a separate form that can be retained by the individual, of:

(A) the authority (whether granted by statute, or by executive order of the President) which authorizes the solicitation of the information and whether disclosure of such information is mandatory or voluntary;

(B) the principal purpose or purposes for which the information is intended to be used;

(C) the routine uses which may be made of the information . . . ; and

(D) the effects on [the individual], if any, of not providing all or any part of the requested information.

To improve the ability of intelligence personnel of the DoD to recruit sources, it is sometimes necessary for Defense intelligence personnel, without having to divulge their affiliation with the DoD or the United States government, to approach potential sources and collect personal

Page 25

information from them to determine their suitability and willingness to become intelligence sources.

The DCI recognized that compliance with the requirements of Section 552a(e)(3) has the potential to threaten operational relationships, compromise the safety of intelligence officers, and jeopardize intelligence sources and methods. Pursuant to Section 552a(j)(1) of the Privacy Act, the DCI exempted all systems of records maintained by CIA from the requirements of Section 552a(e)(3). See 32 C.F.R. 1901.62(b). Section 552a(j)(2) of the Privacy Act grants a similar exemption to law enforcement personnel. Compliance with Section 552a(e)(3) poses similar risks
to Defense intelligence personnel and to the lawful and authorized human intelligence missions of the DoD.

Congress has previously recognized the limitations that Section 552a(e)(3) places on Defense intelligence personnel. Section 503 of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1995 (Pub. L. No. 103-359 (Oct. 14, 1994)) granted Defense intelligence personnel a very limited exemption from Section 552a(e)(3). The exemption in Section 503 was limited to a single “initial assessment contact outside the United States.” Current counterterrorism and other foreign intelligence operations highlight the need for greater latitude to assess potential intelligence sources, both overseas and within the United States. Providing an additional limited exemption to
the Privacy Act to give Defense intelligence officers the same protection enjoyed by the CIA when assessing and recruiting sources should serve to protect these officers, shield their operations from security risks, and improve the ability of the DoD to conduct successful human intelligence operations.

Section 431 does not expand the intelligence collection mission of the DoD. Section 431 also maintains current limitations in Executive Order 12333 and DoD Regulation 5240.1-R concerning the collection and retention of information about U.S. persons. In fact, the legislation codifies several restrictions in Executive Order 12333 and DoD Regulation 5240.1-R that provide protections for U.S. persons.

The Committee expects that the majority of Defense intelligence “assessment contacts” with U.S. persons, whether within or outside the United States, should continue to be “open”–i.e., the U.S. person should be aware that they are talking with a representative of the United States government. Under DoD Regulation 5240.1-R, Defense intelligence officials are required to use the “least intrusive means” for collecting intelligence information. In other words, without meeting specified requirements for more intrusive techniques (such as other-than-overt or “clandestine” approaches), Defense intelligence agents must use overt methods to collect publicly available information or information provided with the consent of the person concerned. Within the United States, a clandestine collection effort may be undertaken to collect foreign intelligence about U.S. persons only under the following specified circumstances:

(a) The foreign intelligence sought is significant and collection is not undertaken for the purpose of acquiring information concerning the domestic activities of any U.S. person;

Page 26

(b) Such foreign intelligence cannot reasonably be obtained by overt means;

(c) The collection of such foreign intelligence has been coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and

(d) The use of other than overt means has been approved in writing by the head of the Department of Defense intelligence component concerned, or his single designee, as being consistent with [DoD Regulation 5240.1-R].

The regulatory conditions under which Defense intelligence personnel may collect information about a U.S. person are quite rigorous and, in large part, have been incorporated in Section 431. If any condition for collection is not met, then the Defense intelligence component may not utilize the authorities provided in Section 431.

Section 431 amends Section 503 of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1995 (Pub. L. No. 103-359 (Oct. 14, 1994)) to permit Defense intelligence personnel, under certain limited circumstances, to make assessment contacts with U.S. persons without providing notice of governmental affiliation. In addition to the restrictions in Executive Order 12333 and DoD Regulation 5240.1-R, the authority may only be exercised within the United States upon a determination by the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), or the single designee of the Director, that

(a) foreign intelligence, counterintelligence, security, or other operational concerns require that such notice not be given; and

(b) such assessment contact is undertaken for the purpose of determining whether such U.S. person possesses, or has access to, foreign intelligence information, and whether such U.S. person is credible or suitable as a source, provided that no assessment contact shall be undertaken . . . for the purpose of acquiring information concerning the domestic activities of any U.S. person.

Section 431 also requires that the DoD maintain records associated with each assessment contact under this provision that describe (1) the authority under which the information was collected, (2) any interagency coordination required before the contact, (3) a brief description of such interagency coordination, (4) the basis for the decision not to disclose governmental affiliation, (5) the nature of the information obtained from the U.S. person as a result of the contact, and (6) whether additional assessment contacts, beyond the initial assessment contact, resulted with the person concerned.

The Committee will closely monitor the DoD’s use of the authorities provided by Section 503 (as amended by this section) to ensure that the requirements of the provision, Executive Order

Page 27

12333, and DoD Regulation 5240.1-R are strictly followed and that the privacy and civil liberties of U.S. persons are appropriately protected.

When the Bullet Hits the Bone

And I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I was standing for a supporter and for a fortress for him. And now I will declare the truth to you: Behold! Three kings shall stand up in Persia; and the fourth shall be rich in all greater riches. And when he is strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the kingdom of Greece. And a mighty king shall stand up and shall rule with great authority and do according to his will. And when he stands up his kingdom shall be shattered and shall be divided to the four winds of the heavens, and not to his posterity, nor according to his authority with which he ruled. For his kingdom shall be pulled up and given to others besides these.

And the king of the south shall be strong. And one of his rulers, even he will be strong on him, and he will rule. His rule shall be a great rule. And at the end of the years they shall join together, and the king of the south’s daughter shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement. But she shall not keep the power of the arm. And he will not stand, nor his arm. But she and those who brought her shall be given up, also her begetter and her supporter in these times. But the shoots of her roots will stand in his place, and he shall come to the army and will enter into the fortress of the king of the north. And he will act against them and will show strength. And he will also bring their gods with their casted images, with silver and gold vessels of their possessions, into exile to Egypt. And for years he will stand away from the king of the north.

And the king of the south will come into his kingdom and will return to his own land. But his sons shall be stirred up and shall gather a multitude of great forces. And one certainly shall come and overflow and pass through. And he will return to his fortress and be stirred up. And the king of the south will be bitter and will go out and fight with him, with the king of the north. And he shall raise a great multitude, but the multitude shall be given into his hand. And having carried away the host, his heart will be lifted up. And he will cause myriads to fall, but he shall not be strong.

For the king of the north shall return and raise a greater host than the former. And at the end of times, years, coming he shall come with a great army and with much equipment. And in those times many shall stand up against the king of the south. And the sons of the violent ones of your people shall rise up to establish the vision, but they shall stumble.

And the king of the north shall come and pour out a siege mound and seize a fortified city. And the arms of the south shall not stand, nor his choice people, for there will be no firmness to stand. But he who comes against him will do as he desires, and none shall stand before him. And he shall stand in the glorious land, and destruction shall be in his hand. And he shall set his face to go in with the might of all his kingdom, and upright ones with him; so he shall do. And he shall give the daughter of women to him, to destroy it. But she shall not stand, nor be for him. And he shall turn his face to the coastlands and shall capture many. But a ruler shall make cease his reproach for him, but his reproach shall return to him. And he shall turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land, but he will stumble and fall and shall not be found.

And one who passes over a tax exacter shall stand in his place, for the glory of the kingdom. But within a few days he will be shattered, but not in anger and not in battle. And a despised one shall stand up on his place, and they shall not give to him the honor of the king. But he shall come in while at ease and make strong the kingdom by intrigues. And the forces of the overflow shall be swept from before his face, and they will be shattered, and also the ruler of a covenant. And after they join themselves to him, he will practice deceit; for he shall come and shall be strong with a few people. He will go in safely, even into the rich places of the province. And he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers. He shall plunder and spoil and scatter goods among them. And he shall devise his plots against the strongholds, even for a time. And he will stir up his power and his heart against the king of the south with a great army. And the king of the south will be stirred up to battle with a great and very mighty army. But he shall not stand, for they will devise plots against him.

Yea, those who eat his food shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow. And many will fall down slain. And both of them, the kings, shall have in their hearts to do evil, and they will speak lies at one table. But it will not prosper, for the end still shall be at the appointed time. And he will return to his land with great wealth. And his heart shall be against the holy covenant. And he will act, and he shall return to his land. At the appointed time he will return and come against the south. But it will not be as the former or as the latter. For the Kittim ships will come against him. And he will be pained and turn back and be furious against the holy covenant. And he will act, and he will return and heed the forsakers of the holy covenant.

And forces will stand away from him, and they will profane the sanctuary, the fortress. And they shall remove the regular sacrifice, and they will place the abomination that desolates. And he will defile by flatteries those who do evil against the covenant. But the people who know their God will be strong and will work. And those who understand among the people will instruct many, yet they will stumble by the sword and by flame, by exile and spoil for days. And when they shall stumble, they will be helped with a little help. But many will join them with hypocrisy. And many of those who understand shall stumble, to refine and to purge them, and to make white to the time of the end. For it is yet for the appointed time.

And the king shall do according to his will. And he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god; he shall even speak marvelous things against the God of gods and shall prosper until the fury is completed. For that which is decreed shall be done. He shall not regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women; yea, he will not come to any god. For he shall magnify himself above all. But in his place he shall honor the god of forces, and he shall honor a god whom his fathers did not know, with gold and silver and with precious stones, and desirable things. And he shall act in the strongholds of the fortresses with a foreign god, whom he shall acknowledge. He shall multiply in glory, and he shall cause them to rule over many and shall divide the land for a price. And at the end time, the king of the south will engage in butting with him. And the king of the north shall come against him like a tempest, with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships. And he shall go into the lands and shall overflow and pass over. And he shall enter into the glorious land, and many will be stumbled. But these shall escape out of his hand: Edom and Moab, and the chief of the sons of Ammon.

And his hand will stretch out against the lands, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. But he will rule over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all Egypt’s desirable things. And the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. But news shall trouble him from the east and from the north. And he will go out with great fury to destroy and to devote many to destruction. And he shall plant his palace tents between the seas, in the glorious holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end, and there is not a helper for him.

“I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!”

The media recently reported that Britain had been in secret discussions with Saudi Arabia over a major arms deal, but talks have been stalling since Riyadh asked for three tricky favors. This is the latest twist in a long-running scandal that has no end in sight.

Sources say the favors are: Britain expel two anti-Saudi dissidents, Saad al-Faqih and Mohammed al-Masari; British Airways resume flights to Riyadh, currently cancelled through terrorism fears; a corruption investigation implicating the Saudi ruling family and advanced defense and aerospace manufacturer BAE Systems be dropped. Crown prince Sultan’s son-in-law, Prince Turki bin Nasr, is at the center of a “slush fund” investigation by the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office.

[…]

According to political economist Joe Roeber the arms industry is the most corrupt legal sector of the economy. In the late 1990s the CIA is reported to have estimated that the arms trade accounted for 40-45% of the total corruption in world trade despite only amounting to less than half a percent of the total.

I suppose you’re shocked that the US is the number one arms dealer in the world too. Military Industrial Corruption Complex.

Just how stupid can the American people be? This stupid apparently. As per the previous post, we supply the training, the funding, and the weapons that kill American soldiers, and who makes the profit? Get a clue people! I mean that’s what all those DGrees are all about isn’t it college boy?

Why oh Why can’t we have decent…. oh yeah, you!

US back to the drawing board in Afghanistan/ Western-trained, Western-armed, enemies

The US and coalition troops only stay in their bases and only carry out special search operations. The responsibility of routine patrolling and local intelligence-gathering lies with the Afghan National Army and police. However, there are frequent signs in recent months that local forces are looking the other way. The trend is so frequent that it cannot be named as ignorance. Apparently it is deliberate and points to a more dangerous trend for the coalition forces. In the near future, more foreign ground troops will be inevitable to more closely monitor the performance of the Afghan troops and increase its coordination in search operations,” a security source told Asia Times Online on condition of anonymity.

The US and British militaries have suspended their training programs for Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan after more than 800 troops from these countries deserted, and many reportedly joined militant groups, such as al-Qaeda and Chechen rebel forces.

[…]

n Afghanistan, meanwhile, IRIN News of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs earlier this year quoted an Afghan Ministry of Defense report saying that more than a quarter of the Afghan National Army (ANA) had deserted since its formation in mid-2002. “Around two to three thousand soldiers have fled the ANA so far,” General Zahir Azimi, a spokesperson for the ministry, told IRIN.

[…]

Last fall, news appeared for the first time that Afghan rebels were buying sophisticated Russian and Chinese-made SAMs (See The Taliban’s battle over the ballot, Asia Times Online, September 10). The report quoted an unnamed rebel saying: “A general conduit of the weapons smuggling for Afghanistan is from Iraqi Kurdistan, from where the weapons are transported through Iran to Afghanistan. The SAM missiles of Russian and Chinese origin are available at a cost of US$2,500 each. The main market of these missiles is Afghanistan.”

[…]

A part of the problem is that the Pentagon employs private contractors to train many of the foreign troops. This made it easier for the resistance to penetrate the recruitment process and get training. Since the private contractors are paid by the number of people they train, vetting of the trainees becomes somewhat less rigorous.

Most of these US-UK trainers are private outfits, often run by retired military officers, including three- and four-star generals. A few are familiar names, like Kellogg Brown & Root, a subsidiary of Halliburton. Other private trainers have more cryptic names, like DynCorp; Vinnell, a subsidiary of TRW; SAIC; ICI of Oregon; and Logicon, a unit of Northrop Grumman. One of the best known, Military Professional Resources Inc (MPRI), boasts of “more generals per square foot than in the Pentagon”.

The growing number of helicopter crashes in almost picture-perfect Afghan weather in recent months cannot be explained away too easily. The September 25 downing of a Chinook is one of many. A US helicopter crashed on July 29 during a routine training mission in Bagram, north of Kabul, injuring the two crewmen on board. That crash came a day after a Chinook CH-47 helicopter was destroyed in what the military called “a hard landing” during an operation to hunt down insurgents in the south. In April, a CH-47 crashed in Ghazni province, killing 15 American servicemen and three US civilian contractors.

Why we read blogs

Ok, we’re still raising money.

Go read this and then give them a couple of bucks if can spare it. After all it’s only a couple of nickels in constant 67 dollars anyway.

Steve’s language can be a little repellent sometimes, so be forewarned. He does bring out some good points, however, and if the Congress and President can lie through their teeth on a daily basis, and the MSM can bloviate and sugar coat those lies, then a little anglo saxon expletives from Steve are on the whole less repellent to the mind.

I Remember Democrats

William Rivers Pitt

There has been a fair amount of talk recently about the number of scandals surrounding the Bush administration and the Republican party, inspiring allusions to the historic Congressional reversal in 1994. Tom DeLay has been indicted, Bill Frist is being investigated for insider trading, and the recently indicted super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff watched his favorite White House procurement officer get arrested for obstruction. The administration was forced last week to scold conservative ubermensch Bill Bennett, who claimed the crime rate would go down if every African-American fetus were aborted.

>snip<

Matters have become so dicey for the administration that Bush was compelled to convene a counsel of crisis to confront the rising tide. The day after DeLay was indicted, Bush called newly-minted House Majority Leader Roy Blunt, House Speaker Hastert, Senate Majority Leader Frist and several others to the White House for a little chat. The meeting was partially motivated by bedlam within GOP ranks; California Republican David Dreier was supposedly headed for DeLay’s seat, but was chopped down in a flurry of confusion which ultimately led to the ascendancy of the right-leaning Blunt. The larger discussion before this meeting, however, may well have been reminiscent of the last counsel held by Roman emperor Honorius as the Visigoths crested the seventh hill.

There has been one consistently missing piece of this puzzle, a piece whose absence would be unutterably galling had that absence not become so drearily predictable. With all that is assaulting the White House, the Republican majority in Congress, and indeed the entire substructure of conservative political philosophy, the absence of a vocal, united, organized Democratic opposition to crystallize the reality of our wretched estate and offer a compelling alternative is, simply, astonishing.

Call it cowardice. Call it cynical. Call it a conspiracy. Call it a custard pie, for all the good it will do. Adjectives and invective wither before the yawning abyss that stands between the words of Democratic officeholders, and the deeds they have thus far failed so completely to accomplish. One hears that they are “keeping their powder dry.” All this protracted, disorganized silence leads one to assume they have the driest powder this side of the Sahara. If it does not get used soon, it will blow away like so much dust.

t r u t h o u t – Italy Issues 22 Arrest Warrants for CIA Agents

Italy Orders Further CIA Warrants
BBC

Tuesday 04 October 2005

An Italian court has issued three more arrest warrants for suspected CIA agents accused of helping to kidnap a Muslim cleric in 2003.

The authorities have already ordered the arrest of 19 people suspected of being involved in the abduction of Egyptian Osama Mustafa Hassan.

The suspects are accused of abducting Mr Hassan, also known as Abu Omar, and flying him to Egypt for interrogation.

A Fistful of Euros: H5N1

On the other hand, there are social conditions that affect outcomes, too. One of the reasons 1918 was so bad is that wartime conditions in Europe offered unusually dense concentrations of people, mixing endemic diseases from many different areas. Wartime privations also weakened immune systems; when flu struck, secondary infections found the going that much easier.

Finally, secrecy contributed to both the spread of disease and the ineffectiveness of public health measures. Newspapers in the United States, under extreme pressure not to undermine morale, did not report the full danger. Local governments lied about the disease, and higher levels of government subordinated the fight against the flu to the war. All of these actions and inactions made the casualty level higher than necessary.

Chavez’s selling of bonds raises concerns

CARACAS – The Venezuelan government’s decision to sell $20 billion-worth of U.S. Treasury bonds and move the money to Europe has sparked fresh concerns over the autonomy of the country’s central bank under populist President Hugo Chávez.

Although analysts concede there could be valid arguments for the transfer, there has been widespread criticism of the way in which it was handled, particularly the blatant political interference by Chávez.

Chávez announced Friday that Venezuela had sold U.S. Treasury bonds and moved the money into securities held at the Bank for International Settlements in Switzerland “and other countries.”

Entrances to White House closed

Entrances to the White House from Pennsylvania Avenue, a historic Washington thoroughfare, were briefly closed on Wednesday and workers already inside were told to remain in the building.

The shutdown lasted about 20 minutes. U.S. Secret Service officers on the scene said the incident was prompted by discovery of a suspicious package.

General: No foreseeable end to the war against terrorism

WASHINGTON — The war on terror will go on “for the foreseeable future,” the Army chief of staff said Tuesday.
>snip<
“We call this the long war, and it will be,” Schoomaker said. He also said it is time for Americans to “wake up and realize we are at war in a very real way.”

The head of Army Staff intelligence made a similar assessment in a separate talk, saying the war against terrorism will go on for “decades.”

Lt. Gen. John F. Kimmons could not say how long U.S. forces will continue to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, but said the military has “pencil-draft” plans to draw down troops in Iraq.

Yada Yada Yada, or why Generals don’t make policy. How many wars can a General lose and still stay a General? Custer should have had it so good.

Deal lets Cunningham sell home amid inquiry

Prosecutors and lawyers for Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham have reached a deal to allow the politician to sell his Rancho Santa Fe home while a federal investigation continues into whether it was bought with proceeds from a bribe.

As part of the agreement, a federal judge ordered Thursday that proceeds from the house sale – after mortgages and fees are paid – be placed in an escrow account.

So instead of fighting over whether Cunningham and his wife, Nancy, should lose the house, lawyers and prosecutors will battle over whether he should forfeit the money from its sale to the government, and how much.

>snip<

But in papers they filed in federal court Friday, Cunningham’s lawyers argued that, at most, Wade overpaid by $300,000 and, as a result, that’s all the government should be allowed to seize in the event they prove their allegations.

In April 2004, the county assessed the home’s value at $1.375 million.

That assessment, based on what other houses in the neighborhood were fetching, indicated that the Cunninghams were paid more than market value for the house, David Butler, chief deputy of valuation at the assessor’s office, said in an interview.

When Wade resold the house for $975,000 a year ago, the county accepted that price as an accurate fair market value, Butler said.

Cunningham’s lawyers are asking Judge Dana M. Sabraw to order that just $300,000 of the sale proceeds go into the escrow account and to allow the Cunninghams to get the rest of the money.

“The Cunninghams have raised a strong argument in their favor as to the issue of what money, if any, is subject to forfeiture in this case,” said Richard Barnett, a forfeiture expert.

Separately, Nancy Cunningham is seeking to keep half the proceeds of the Rancho Santa Fe house sale because prosecutors aren’t accusing her of any criminal activity.

Rain, snow slow already delayed beet harvest

Jones noted that hurricanes Katrina and Rita raised havoc for the cane sugar industry in Louisiana and Texas.

“There will be a perceived shortage of sugar,” he said, but supply will be adequate. One of two cane refineries in Louisiana is back on line, but Rita tore up the fields, and it could take as long as five years for replanted cane to come to production.

Reconstrucion de la Nueva Orleans

At a time when Latino immigrants are expected to form a big part of the Gulf Coast reconstruction labor pool, the Department of Homeland Security has temporarily suspended sanctioning employers who hire workers unable to prove their citizenship, essentially allowing contractors to hire undocumented workers.

That move followed President Bush’s Sept. 8 decision to lift in Katrina-hit areas the 1931 Davis-Bacon Act, which requires federal contractors to pay at least the average regional wage. Bush says it will hasten one of the world’s largest reconstruction efforts.

U.S. Attorney General briefed on House of Death murders, DEA Administrator admits

Yet another layer of deceit in the House of Death cover-up is now being brought into the sunlight with the surfacing of more public documents.

These documents, pleadings from an employment discrimination case filed in U.S. District Court in Miami, show that the U.S. Attorney General himself was briefed on the House of Death case.

This latest evidence reveals that the trail of this cover-up of a U.S. government informant’s participation in mass murder extends from the federal agents who handled the informant, to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Antonio, to the administrator of the DEA and top officials within the Department of Homeland Security, to the top gun in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

Yet, to date, no one, not the Congress, not the U.S. Courts, not the White House, not even the mainstream media has sought to expose the cover-up in this mass-murder case. Instead, as of this writing, only a lone whistleblower within DEA has been punished — his reputation tarnished by a negative job-performance review in retaliation for trying to expose the cover-up.

Reminder of the crime

A dozen people were tortured and murdered between August 2003 and mid-January 2004 in a house in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, just across the border from El Paso, Texas.

The murders were carried out as part of a criminal enterprise overseen by Heriberto Santillan-Tabares, who U.S. prosecutors claim was a top lieutenant in Vicente Carrillo Fuentes’ (VCF’s) Juárez drug organization.

Federal agents with the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in El Paso had planted an informant inside of Santillan’s criminal syndicate. The federal agents, along with a U.S. prosecutor in El Paso, were using the informant to snare Santillan.

But something went terribly wrong with the investigation. The informant, with the knowledge of the ICE agents and a U.S. prosecutor, actually participated in the murders in Juarez, a fact the law enforcers went to great lengths to keep under wraps.

The only reason Congressional Democrats support Miers and the War on Iraq is because they are as corrupt as the Congressional Republicans.

Mr. President, Open Your Ears

Some of us have been trying to get your attention for months. Glad it finally hit the radar over at dKos, and Ballon Juice, and the White House.

The President should be aware of some things regarding this virus, and its’ spread. One there is no way he can quarantine it. If it makes it to the chicken farms it will spread through the food chain, and not from human to human. If it mutates from H5N1 to H5N2 it will occur in hogs and will also enter the food chain. By the time you are aware of it, it will have already disabled and killed the National Guard and Active Duty forces needed for the imposition of your plan. By the time these forces recover, so will all of the affected areas.

If it is ordained by God you will be powerless to contain it anyway.

Repent and turn around sir, stop crushing the weak and the poor, stop shedding the blood of the innocent, exercise justice, and turn away from doing bad. If you do not, you and your nation will be destroyed without hands, and what will you do in that day, oh son of man, when all that has been is no more?

Psalm 75

To the chief musician. Do not destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

We have given thanks to You, O God; we have given thanks; for Your name is near; Your wonderful works have been told.
When I take the appointed time, I shall judge in uprightness.
The earth and all those living in it are melting away; I set firm its pillars. Selah.
I said to the boastful, Do not boast; and to the wicked, Do not lift up the horn.
Do not lift up your horn on high; do not speak with a stiff neck.
For exaltations are not from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert;
but God is the judge; He puts down this one and lifts up this other.
For a cup is in the hand of Jehovah; and the wine foams; it is fully mixed, and He pours out from it; surely all the wicked of the earth must drain its dregs and drink.
But I will witness forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
And I will cut off all the horns of the wicked; but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

Isaiah 18

Ha for the land of the whirring insects with wings, which is in the region of the rivers of E·thi·o´pi·a! It is the one sending forth envoys by means of the sea, and by means of vessels of papyrus upon the surface of the waters, [saying:] “Go, YOU swift messengers, to a nation drawn out and scoured, to a people fear-inspiring everywhere, a nation of tensile strength and of treading down, whose land the rivers have washed away.”

All YOU inhabitants of the productive land and YOU residents of the earth, YOU will see a sight just as when there is the raising up of a signal upon the mountains, and YOU will hear a sound just as when there is the blowing of a horn. For this is what Jehovah has said to me: “I will keep undisturbed and look upon my established place, like the dazzling heat along with the light, like the cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. For before the harvest, when the blossom comes to perfection and the bloom becomes a ripening grape, one must also cut off the sprigs with pruning shears and must remove the tendrils, must lop [them] off. They will be left all together for the bird of prey of the mountains and for the beast of the earth. And upon it the bird of prey will certainly pass the summer, and upon it even every beast of the earth will pass the harvesttime.

“In that time a gift will be brought to Jehovah of armies, [from] a people drawn out and scoured, even from a people fear-inspiring everywhere, a nation of tensile strength and of treading down, whose land the rivers have washed away, to the place of the name of Jehovah of armies, Mount Zion.”

High-end reporting at risk in newsrooms

By Mike Fancher Seattle Times executive editor

Staff cuts are coming to The New York Times, The Boston Globe, San Jose Mercury News, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and San Francisco Chronicle. Joe Strupp, who follows the newspaper industry for “Editor & Publisher” magazine, reports that more than 350 newsroom jobs will be lost at just those six papers. “And those are just the ones we’ve heard about in recent weeks. No telling what budget-slashing knife is being sharpened elsewhere in this Honey-We-Shrunk-the-Newsroom business, much of it in the name of greed or at least bottom-line paranoia,” he wrote.

Cuts of that magnitude at newspapers of such prominence should concern civic-minded people everywhere. Journalists are under enormous pressure to help their owners maintain and even increase profitability through difficult economic times.

“In most of these cases, cuts are the answer not to low profits, but to less-than-acceptable profits,” Strupp concluded. “For each of these newspapers — all owned by major media chains — making money has not been a problem. The question has been making ‘enough money,‘ a subjective phrase if there ever was one. In most cases, enough money is what meets Wall Street expectations and projections, not an acceptable income from a business hit by tough times.”

I would think that this would make it easier for the paper to mask its’ cronyism with politicians and other organized criminals, such as the governments of the fifty states, churches, and especially other capitalists much easier to conceal from the public.

On the upside unemployed journalists also make excellent bloggers and so if they are willing to go through the standard lean years of any business start up, may find themselves in very lucative career changes that circumvent the establishments need to hide the grime of its’ crimes.

The Cabal may very well discover that it has lost control of the flow of information, which like beer, wants to be free.

Let the Saints Fall Silent

Amo 5

Hear this word which I am lifting up against you, a dirge, O house of Israel. The virgin of Israel has fallen, and will not arise again; she lies forsaken on her land; there is no one raising her up.
For so says the Lord Jehovah, The city that goes out by a thousand shall have a hundred left. And that which goes out by a hundred shall have ten left in the house of Israel. For so says Jehovah to the house of Israel, Seek Me, and live. But do not seek Bethel, and do not enter Gilgal, and do not cross over to Beer-sheba; for Gilgal going shall go into exile, and Bethel shall be for nothing. Seek Jehovah, and live, that He not break out like a fire on the house of Joseph, and consume, and no one is putting it out for Bethel. He abandoned those who turn justice and righteousness into wormwood on the earth.

He who created the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the deep darkness into the morning, and He darkened the day into night; who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the face of the earth, Jehovah is His name; who flashes out with destruction on the strong; yea, destruction comes on the fortress.

They hate him who rebukes in the gate, and they despise him who speaks uprightly. So, because of your trampling on the poor, and you take tribute of grain from him; you have built houses of hewn stones, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted desirable vineyards, but you shall not drink wine from them. For I know your many transgressions, and your many sins: distressing the just, taking of a bribe, and turning aside the poor in the gate. So the understanding ones shall keep silent in that time, for it is an evil time. Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so Jehovah the God of Hosts shall be with you, as you have spoken. Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate. It may be that Jehovah the God of Hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

So Jehovah, the God of Hosts, the Lord, says this: Wailing shall be in all streets, and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! Alas! And they shall call the farmer to the mourning, and those knowing wailing to lamentation. And wailing shall be in all vineyards, for I will pass among you, says Jehovah. Woe to those desiring the day of Jehovah! What is this for you? The day of Jehovah is darkness, and not light. It is as if a man fled before a lion, and the bear met him. Or he goes into the house and leans his hand against the wall, and a snake bites him. Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light; even very dark, and not any brightness in it?

I hate, I despise your feast days; and I will not delight in your solemn assemblies. Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not be pleased; nor will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals. Take away from Me the noise of your songs; and I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Have you brought near sacrifices and food offerings to Me forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? Yea, you have lifted up the booth of your king, and Kiyyun, your images, the star of your gods which you made for yourselves! And I will exile you beyond Damascus, says Jehovah, the God of Hosts is His name.

On the Two Israels of God. According to Paul

Eze 23

And the Word of Jehovah was to me, saying, Son of man, there were two women, daughters of one mother. And they fornicated in Egypt; in their youth they fornicated. Their breasts were handled, and there their virgin nipples were worked. And their names were Oholah, the oldest, and Oholibah, her sister. And they were Mine, and they bore sons and daughters. And their names: Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem is Oholibah.

And Oholah whored under Me. And she lusted on her lovers, to Assyrian neighbors, clothed with purple, governors and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding horses. And she bestowed her harlotries on them, the choice sons of Assyria, with all of them, and with all after whom she lusted. She defiled herself with all their idols. And she did not leave her fornications from Egypt. For they lay with her in her youth, and they worked her virgin nipples and poured their fornications on her. So I have given her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the sons of Assyria on whom she lusted. They uncovered her nakedness. They took her sons and her daughters. And they killed her with the sword. And she was notorious among women, and they executed judgments on her.

And her sister Oholibah saw. And she was more corrupt in her lustfulness than she, and her fornications were greater than her sister’s whoredom. She lusted to the sons of Assyria, neighboring governors and rulers clothed most perfectly, horsemen riding horses, all of them desirable young men. Then I saw that she was defiled, one way was to both of them.

And she added to her fornications. And she saw men carved on the wall, images of the Chaldeans engraved with vermillion color, girded with girdles on their loins, with overflowing turbans on their heads, the appearance of rulers, all of them, like the sons of Babylon in Chaldea, the land of their birth. And she lusted after them, to the sight of her eyes, and sent messengers to them into Chaldea. And the sons of Babylon came to her, to the bed of love. And they defiled her with their fornications. And she was defiled with them, and her soul was alienated from them. And she uncovered her fornications and uncovered her nakedness.

Then My soul was alienated from her just as My soul was alienated from her sister. And she multiplied her fornications to recall the days of her youth, in which she had fornicated in the land of Egypt. And she lusted on their paramours of whom the flesh of asses resembles their flesh, and as the issue of horses was their issue. And you longed for the wickedness of your youth, when from Egypt they worked your nipples, for the sake of the breasts of your youth.

Therefore, O Oholibah, the Lord Jehovah says this: Behold, I will arouse your lovers against you, from whom your soul is alienated. And I will bring them against you from all around, Babylon’s sons and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, all the sons of Assyria with them, desirable young men, governors and rulers, all of them, third heads and called ones, all of them riding horses. And they shall come against you with weapons, chariots, and wheels, and with an assembly of peoples; buckler and shield and helmet shall set against you all around.

And I will give before them judgment, and they will judge you by their judgments. And I will give My jealousy against you, and they will deal with you in fury. Your nose and your ears they will take, and the rest of you shall fall by the sword. They will take your sons and your daughters, and the rest of you shall be devoured by the fire. And they will strip you of your clothes, and take the articles of your beauty. And I will cause your wickedness to cease from you, and your fornication from the land of Egypt. And you shall not lift up your eyes to them, and Egypt shall not be remembered by you any more.

For so says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will give you into the hand of those whom you hate, into the hand of whom your soul was alienated from them. And they shall deal with you in hatred and take all your labor, and shall leave you naked and bare. And the nudity of your adulteries will be bared, even your lewdness and your fornications. These will be done to you because you have whored after the nations, because you are defiled with their idols.

You have walked in the way of your sister, and I will give her cup into your hand. So says the Lord Jehovah: You shall drink your sister’s cup deep and wide; you shall be laughed at and mocked, for it holds much. With drunkenness and sorrow you are filled, the cup of horror and ruin, the cup of your sister Samaria. And you shall drink it and drain it. And you shall break its fragments and tear off your breasts. For I have spoken, declares the Lord Jehovah.

Therefore the Lord Jehovah says this: Because you have forgotten Me and cast Me behind your back, so also you bear your wickedness and your adulteries. And Jehovah said to me, Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then declare to them their abominations. For they committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. Yea, they committed adultery with their idols, and even their sons whom they bore to Me, they cause to pass to them to be consumed. Even still they have done this to Me: They have defiled My sanctuary in that day, and have profaned My sabbaths.

And when they had slain their sons to their idols, then they came into My sanctuary in that day to profane it. And, lo, this they have done in the midst of My house. Furthermore, they have sent for men to come from a distance, of whom a messenger was sent to them. And behold, they came, for whom you washed, painted your eyes, and were adorned with gems. And you sat on a glorious bed, and a table was arranged before it, and My incense and My oil you set on it. And the sound of a crowd at ease was with her, and drunkards from the wilderness were brought with the men of the host of mankind. And they put bracelets on their hands and crowns of beauty on their heads.

Then I said about the one worn in adulteries, Will they now fornicate with her, and she with them? And they went in to her. As they go in to a woman of harlotry, so they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the wicked women. And as righteous men, they shall judge them with the judgment of adulteresses, and the judgment of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands. For so says the Lord Jehovah: Bring up on them an assembly, and give them to terror and plunder. And the assembly shall stone them with stones and cut them down with their swords. They shall slay their sons and their daughters, and they shall burn their houses with fire.

So I will cause to cease wickedness out of the land, that all the women may be taught, even not to do according to your wickedness. And they shall put your wickedness on you, and you shall bear the sins of your idols. And you shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah.
