How it is that I can be a catholic Christian, but not be a Catholic. I wouldn’t even go so far as to say that I agree with everything that is written over there, since i haven’t read everything over there, but it shouldn’t take too long for most of you to figure out why most of what critics of Christianity have to say about Christianity doesn’t really impact my understanding of it.
Again, theology is what you’re supposed to think about while you are doing what we were told to do, and since none of us are doing what we were told to do, it follows that we don’t think about it either. But if we can encourage one another to start doing so, then we can have a positive impact on ourselves and each other, and ultimately the world inwhich we live.
To be upfront and truthful, some of you are set in your ways and comfortable in your understanding, and that too, is fine by me, but for those of you still on the quest, who cannot make sense of what you have come to know, and what you have been taught, then here is an alternative understanding.
38John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name. We tried to stop him, because he wasn’t a follower like us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Don’t stop him, because no one who works a miracle in my name can slander me soon afterwards. 40 Whoever is not against us is for us. 41 I tell you with certainty, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to the Messiah will never lose his reward.”
A most overlooked passage, indeed.
