Kick ‘Em When They’re Up, Kick ‘Em When They’re Down…

I pulled this because I thought I ought to at least give my nod and two cents worth on Lou Dobbs leaving CNN. I’d hate to think we’ve heard the last of ol’ Lou, unless he chooses it to be so. I bet the real story is a lot noisier than the one being reported too. Bueno Bye Lou, Bueno Bye.

Our Poor Country Cousins

From /. comes word of even more intrusions into Lou Dobbs world. Oh dear That’s about as many links as I can stuff into one post.

Wired.com was able to get a bunch of documents on CIPAV under the Freedom of Information Act that help to explain it. (See the Wired article here and the documents here.) You can get a clear picture of the use of CIPAV on pages 64 to 80 of the documents.

More links later.

A Panorama of Paranoia

Or jus’ bullshit?

A native El Pasoan, Negron was fed up with national media feeding the frenzy to militarize his hometown. He published an opinion piece on Newspaper Tree titled, “Who are you idiots, and why are you on national television talking about the border? An open letter to U.S. media”:

Apparently the “national” media idiocy is starting to bother people who are subjected to the hysterical reactions from sensationalized reporting.

Direct Commercial Sales Of Arms To Mexico

Legal U.S. Arms Exports May Be Source of Narco Syndicates Rising Firepower

A troubling revelation about the DCS program, which has direct relevance to the drug war in Mexico, is contained in a fiscal 2007 report issued by the State Department. That report summarizes the results of the State Department’s Blue Lantern end-use monitoring program for DCS exports.

Worth a look, if you are interested in facts and such things.

Update: If that weren’t enough,

Gun-rights advocates say the 90 percent figure is exaggerated, since Mexican officials estimate that only about one-third of the arms seized are handed over to the ATF to be traced. And, they say, not all of those can be traced because the serial numbers have been filed off. Chris Cox, chief lobbyist for the National Rifle Association, says he believes some quarters in the US are overstating the figure for political aim. “[Second Amendment rights] aren’t going to be used as a scapegoat for the mayhem that’s happening in Mexico,” says Mr. Cox. “The idea that if we pass one more gun law in the US, these cartels are going to put their guns away – if it wasn’t so sad, it would be laughable.” (empasis mine,)

No the second amendment is being used as a shield to get bubba worked up about his pistolas when the major smugglers are some of the same people that bubba is worked up about involving banks etc.

This is a nice piece of work in having your cake and eating it too.
