Anal Protocol Retents

Think outside of the boxen.

New submitter sienrak writes

“Shawn Henry, who is preparing to leave the FBI after more than two decades with the bureau, said in an interview that the current public and private approach to fending off hackers is ‘unsustainable.’ ‘I don’t see how we ever come out of this without changes in technology or changes in behavior, because with the status quo, it’s an unsustainable model. Unsustainable in that you never get ahead, never become secure, never have a reasonable expectation of privacy or security,’ Mr. Henry said.”

I figure I’m wasting my time with this as well as half a dozen other things not invented in DC and New York, but I’ll give it the ol’ college try.

You can’t build a society with inherent inequalities built in and not expect people on the short end of the stick not to respond in anti-social manners. It really is as simple as reading the New Testament, or barring that, using your fucking head. Since those two options have proven to be closed, then let’s think about other options, not contained in some boneheads arsenal of stupid thug tricks.

Since you’re probably not pissed off yet, lets spend some of your hard earned tax dollars on stuff you can’t quantify the results by looking at your checkbook, like most other programs so vehemently despised, like universal health care and such, (yet I digress,) such as all you big shots that wanted to run your critical information over forty year old technology and concepts, probably need to build something more suited to your needs. There is absolutely no reason why everything from porn to emails to your cheating hearts needs to run on the same protocol on the same channels as your banking details and the three letter boys encrypted horse manure. You choose to do so, because you’re cheap fuckers, and change is hard.

There are half a dozen alternatives, only requiring that business and government conspire to spend the money on the machines and infrastructure. It’s just easier to throw miscreants in jail, not cheaper. That of course seems to have become a feature, not a bug, of living in a democratic authoritarian republic.

No Sir

Nothing going on in DC freaks me out anymore. They couldn’t roll back time if you put it in a wheel barrow for them either.

We are ruled by idiots.

Who’s Misdirected By Whom

Barry sends along an interactive graph of news sources. ( It’s the world I know)

A Country Only Conservatives Could Love

According to Lord Saltan.

Hundreds of Afghan women are in jail for “moral crimes”, including running away and extra-marital sex, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has said.

In a report, it said that women were punished for fleeing domestic abuse and violence while some rape victims were also imprisoned.

For a group of people so worried about Sharia law, which is based on guess what, they sure seem to want to impose the same laws on America based on guess what.

Fortunately us Christians were informed by Paul that we lived under the law of love. 1 Cor 13:7. I have not found a New Testament passage that informs me where I can impose that law, or any other belief on those outside of the congregation to which one belongs either. I would hate to think that the arm of God is so short that other Christians would presume to make that call for Him, yet in many things I see Christians presuming they know God’s mind better than the Apostles, so I could be wrong here as well.

News Corp Hacking In America A-OK

As long as everyone is doing it, why not?

Senior Australian officials have expressed concern over allegations that News Corporation engaged in hacking and piracy in order to damage its commercial television competitors.

There is no corporate crime in America.

Long Story Short

We are all Americans – sometimes.

Weirdos, Spooks, And More Weirdos

Because they are,

The assault on personal privacy has ramped up significantly in the past few years. From warrantless GPS tracking to ISP packet inspection, it seems that everyone wants to get in on the booming business of clandestine snooping — even blatant prying, if you consider

YA Nobody Couldanowed

via Calculated Risk

From ProPublica: Fannie and Freddie: Slashing Mortgages Is Good Business

New analyses by mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have added an explosive new dimension to one of the most politically charged debates about the housing crisis: Whether to reduce the amount of money beleaguered homeowners owe on their mortgages.

Their conclusion: Such loan forgiveness wouldn’t just help keep hundreds of thousands of families in their homes, it would also save Freddie and Fannie money. That, in turn, would help taxpayers, who bailed out the companies at a cost of more than $150 billion and are still on the hook for future losses.

Sigh

From Fallopian Tubes To The Intertubes

All your tubes are belong to us.

EFF looked at two bills making their way through Congress: The Cybersecurity Act of 2012 (S. 2105), sponsored by Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) of Connecticut and the Secure IT Act (S. 2151), sponsored by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) . The digital rights group claims that the quality of both bills ranges from “downright terrible” to “appropriately intentioned.” Each, however, is conceptually similar and flawed, EFF said.

Senator Lieberman has been worried about the lone wold since the fourth season of Spooks, and being the Homeland Security committee chairman probably only exacerbates his paranoia, which given the propensity of the government not to enforce laws against wealthy citizens and Wall Street firms and big wigs, not to mention Senators and Representatives wanting to break contracts with the American people and steal their old age money, probably goes hand in hand with a lone wolf genius that is looking to Columbine the ethertubes.

First off, we have to remember that the DoD networks are already owned, so having stockpiles of zero days are probably shareware with other bad actors governments, and secondly, we have to pretend that noone knows that the NSA is going to do what the legislation already envisions anyway, so redundant legislation is, redundant.

The legislators of today seem to have a shiny bauble view of the what legislation can accomplish, it looks very pretty today, and the laws of unintended consequences don’t apply to the majestic ones. Of course I know someone in Podunk that could have told you the Chinese were swarming the net ten years ago, but he was crazy man, I mean to tell ya, crazy man. The Iraq war was going to pay for itself too, and with democracy forking a thousand points of light in the Middle East, all would be well in the home of the free and the land of the brave. Or ask them about, The Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act and the people living under bridges.

Yeah them baubles are baubles alright. Drugstore cowboys at the rodeo of legislation.

It would seem to me that the bad actors governments would be moving their systems to a new and improved infrastructure, such as tubular light, which technology they could then share with their criminal Wall Street asshole buddies like MF Global, and leave the radidio stuff to us poor civilians trying to download porn and effect political change in our governments, and moral certitudes into our religions.

So, what’s next? Legislation forbidding meteorites and expansion of owner withdrawals?

Errata.

Praise The Lord

This people praises me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me

The world’s largest Christian TV channel, the California-based Trinity Broadcasting Network, has become embroiled in a multimillion-dollar financial scandal after members of the family that founded it alleged widespread embezzlement.

That’ll fill the pews.

Odd how that stuff doesn’t make the news in the States, isn’t it? This being a Christian nation and all. I suppose when your worried about your rights and women having sex, then all that Christian stuff has to wait for a more convenient time, doesn’t it?

Would You Buy A Used Car From These Guys?

Seriously

First, we have the JOBS Act, a bill that promises an impossible solution to an unrelated problem, which is a mask for its true agenda, to weaken investor protection rules to the benefit of Wall Street firms and corporations. If there’s an actual policy rationale for this deregulation I’ve yet to see it. That didn’t stop 73 Senators from voting to pass it today, after 300-plus members of the House voted for it previously.

So how’s that austerity thing working for you?

At this rate we’ll all be looking like Iraq in a couple of years.

Meh

Let Us Go Then

While the cloud lays before us,
etherized
like a patient on the table.

A growing number of complexity theorists are beginning to recognise this problem. The growing consensus is that bizarre and unpredictable behaviour often emerges in systems made up of “networks of networks”.

An obvious example is the flash crashes that now plague many financial markets in which prices plummet dramatically for no apparent reason. Understanding how and why this happens is the focus of much research.

The loose nut on the VT-100 says, “Shit happens!”

Or, backup early, backup often. via

I doubt the NSA will share your data with you, after all, there’s No Such Agency either.
