The issue is not whether any of the units could have reached the scene. The central question that the Select Committee needs to nail down is why the President’s Counter Terrorism Crisis Response system was not activated and used during this sustained terrorist attack. Why?
The next graph shows Larry;s motivation, based on his own political assumptions,
This is where the explanation will get tricky. One major preoccupation by the White House and Hillary Clinton was over the political peril that this attack represented to Obama’s campaign. It was important to spin this as a spontaneous affair that had nothing to do with terrorism and everything to do with a bizarre anti-muslim movie. That’s exactly what Hillary Clinton and the White House did.
30 years of CIA experience still doesn’t qualify you to read minds, and so the question, which won’t be answered if it is why the diversion?
But there was another dimension to this tragedy, which brings us to the third phase–the collection and shipment of weapons from Libya to Syria Islamic extremist rebels as part of a covert operation not briefed to Congress. Sy Hersh broke the story recently in the London Review of Books:
This is the issue, it has nothing to do with the previous NATO actions against Libya, whether you supported that action or not. (Do read the post)
The annex didn’t tell the whole story of what happened in Benghazi before the attack, nor did it explain why the American consulate was attacked. ‘The consulate’s only mission was to provide cover for the moving of arms,’ the former intelligence official, who has read the annex, said. ‘It had no real political role.’
The CIA is desperate to keep this part of the Benghazi debacle under wraps Ironically, the major US player in the decision to get in bed with the Saudis and persuade Barack Obama to back the plan to arm Syrian Islamic radicals was, I am told by knowledgeable friends, John Brennan, the current CIA Director. Brennan has a history with Saudi Arabia, having served there as Chief of Station in the 90s. He also was a point man for Obama on Libya and the Middle East.
Now we are getting to the crux of the matter, the tangled alliances fighting foreign monsters for foreign powers. It is Iran\Contra with distinctions.
But the show committee is not looking for answers. It is by its’ design and implementation a political side show, for partisan political gain. In CIA talk, BULLSHIT.
They have no intention of illuminating American foreign policy blunders and alliances that led to a CIA black housed funneling arms to Syrian rebels at Israeli and Saudi Arabian behests.
When conservatives start demanding that all of the official cover-ups of CIA covert operations be exposed then they may start having some validity in their current arm waving. But then we all know, they don’t want to go there.
I would also add that the idea that the personnel in the blacksite were not ignorant of the very real dangers of their duties, and to somehow construe them as as sacrificial virgins for a domestic political campaign is almost too obtuse a concept to respond to.
